  • M90 Charger install ?

I need help i've searched but could not find what i was looking for.

I'm wanting to install my m90 charger on the side of the 3400 engine. I have a 1998 sunfire that i swapped a 3400 engine into. the car first had the m90 installed on top of the 3400 top intake manifold. but i got tired of not being able to see 10 feet in front of the car because the charger stuck 5 inches out of the hood.
What i'm thinking is removing the a/c, a/c lines and a/c condensor also relocate the oil filter and push raditor foward to have room for the charger to sit where the ac should have been. now my problem is well this work? i could not find anybody that has put the roots charger in a remote are. in other words i'm going to remove the 3400 throttle make a plate with charge pipes to an intercooler then to the roots charger. and using the throttle of the m90. Just so everone understands the air is going to be sucked in as follows. Air Filter, 3400 Mass air flow (or 3800 sc'ed maf), m90 Throttle, roots charger, 3 feet of 2.5" piping to intercooler, intercooler, 4 feet of 2.5" piping to 3400 top intake manifold (3400 intake manifold will not have it's throttle).
Big ? is will this work?
i've tried to search for an air to air intercooler for the SC'ed 3800 seeing that what i'm trying to do is going to be similar to that. but could only find the air to water intercooler.

    Thanks for the help.

    RE: M90 Charger install ?

There are a lot of people running remotely mounted roots chargers. There are a variety of ways you can do this as well. There are a few 3100/3400 Grand Am's that run them mounted on the drivers side where the airbox used to be and then they run a driveshaft/extention across the front of the motor(in between the radiator/fans and the motor itself) to get the pulley inline w/ the accessory belt. Here's one example on a Ford 302 http://musclemustangfastfords.com/fe..._luxo_13_z.jpg

You might be able to use parts(outlet adapter) from the Ford Thunderbird SC's(they mount the M90 with the same concept you're going for and use an air to air IC).

EDIT: Found one of the GA's I was talking about.

^M62 supercharger, but still, the same idea. The extention shafts are available online from a few sources if I'm remembering right(I was researching them at one time).

More than likely you will have a difficult time finding a shaft long enough already available and will have to have one made.

You won't want to mount the TB before the SC, dues to the length of runner/plenum area that will be induced by teh Sc to IC tubing, the IC itself and the IC to manifold tubing.
