My volvo stock boosts ~10 psi, my friend's mr2 and supra stock both boosted about 7-8 psi. I'm not exactly sure when it comes to the dohc motor, but I think the 6-8 psi range was what was considered safe on a non-built motor.

That's a little small. Considering that it's a T3 exhaust, I wouldn't even think about going smaller than the 0.82 (probably would work very well the way it is). The compressor side is a bit smaller than I would use, but it should spool quickly and make good power almost all of the way to redline.

        for comparisons sake

        i have a rather small T3 but i'm only 2.2L SOHC 8 valve.

my stock 2.2L Turbo 4-cylinder uses a Garrett T03 - .48 A/R compressor with a .42 A/R turbine. factory boost level is 12psi but i use a MBC set at 13-14psi right now. i'm planning on running the stock turbo up to a little past 20psi (with a a good FMIC then it's time for a turbo upgrade).

i went to the yard today and noticed an 84 300zx, it had a 6 cylinder turbo in it. would that work for 5-7 psi or is it too small?

Well just to note, the z31's turbo was said to be undersized from the factory, and that's on a 3.0L engine vs. your 3.4 just to take all that into consideration.
