  • Need your guys help picking out a turbo?

I've been seriously thinking about putting a turbo on my car when I finish school. I have a 1995 Grand Prix with the 3100. I planned on keeping that engine and just completely rebuilding it. I don't know that much about turbos and wanted to know which one would be best for me. I was thinking about a T3/T4 hybrid, but really have no idea which one or what size. So if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Also, what would be a good compression rate for a turbo'd 3100? This would be my daily driver so I would want to keep it on the safe side, but still make some good power.

I was thinking about running between 8-12 psi, depending on driving conditions. I would try to have an intercooler as well. As far as spooling, I thought around 2,500 rpms would be good, since it doesn't shift past 5,500 rpms. But if someone has a better idea, feel free to let me know. Like I said, I don't know that much about turbos. I know that this may sound a little extreme, but in the end I would like to have around 300hp to the wheels with all of the mods. Does anybody think that this is possible, especially with a built bottem end and the proper supporting mods and tuning? Thanks for any help and sorry about the long post.

t3/t4 57trim, 50 ar cold side, MAX 84 ar hot sid (recomend about a 60 ar)

3100 should handle a max of 12psi but for a daily use 5-7 psi MAX

you may also want to think about computer tunning it to about 13-16* of timing and upgrade to GTP injectors (36#)

why only 5-7 max for daily driver? Properly tuned, it shouldn't need to be limited that low at all, especially with an intercooler and the right turbo.

Your first task should be to figure out how you will tune the car since its a 95 and no one programs that ECM. You can go older ECM with support, aftermarket ECM, or OBD2 that has support. From there, injector size, type of injection (multi port vs sequential) will determine how large you can go and still have a decent idle.

you do not want to run 12 psi on an untuned stock pcm with bigger injectores, etc....

the stock 19# injectors will run out at about 7 psi, THATS why i said dont do 12psi

if you can get someone to tune your car, then 12 MIGHT be ok. i run 10 psi right now and its damn scarry. the other problem with running boost, you MUST have the ability to tune the car more than once, because it is an ongoing creature in itself. and the first tune will NEVER be right, trust me!

a stock pcm and injectors will handle 7psi max, thats why i said that and added in a blurb to seek tunning help.

i didnt even think the stock 19's could handle a modded n/a 3100 at stock fuel pressure?
