I had to complete a customers job today, so I didn't do much on the turbo system. I got the exhaust system started though.
I've engineered the turbo bracket to be partially supported by the down-pipe. There will be a bracket connecting the DP to the cylinder head, making the turbo braket and plumbing perfectly vibration proof.
The 3" 304 stainless exh downpipe section will be divided by a v-band clamp section so that it can be removed in two pieces for "in the field" cylinder head removal. Ill post more assuming that I can get the engine back in the car for clearance inspections.
Kinda unrelated, but here's the customer's custom fan-shroud that I built. It has a "one-bolt" bracket design to make the radiator and shroud easy to remove. It has two pull-fans and a stand-alone thermoswitch controller. The entire thing is perfectly sealed so that it will only pull air through the radiator. Its kinda over built, but so is everything else I build.
Took a break from working on the car. Got some better tools, got a better shop, got a better job... Its time to burn metal!

I had to do a bit of editing to get it to clear the K-member.
Final welding was done with Miller Diversion 156 @ 65 amps w/ .035 filler and 1/16 2% thoriated tungsten. Not bad for a newb.
(John... the .35 welding wire is SOOO much easier to use than the 1/16 filler rod. It doesn't stick like the bigger stuff and I can move a LOT faster when laying down a bead.)
It warped a bit, so I had to extend it a bit to fit correctly
Final fittment looks satisfactory
Not bad for an absolute first attempt.Took a break from working on the car. Got some better tools, got a better shop, got a better job... Its time to burn metal!

looks good! quick question, where did you go for your bends V-bands and expansion tubes?"I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. I have broken with society for reasons which I alone am able to appreciate. I am therefore not subject to it's stupid laws, and I ask you to never allude to them in my presence again."

Columbia and cone buy/sell from each other. Cone makes great collectors and CR sells them, Cone sells CR bends
We have a commercial account with them

Looks fantastic. I hope mine look that good when I finally get started.
If you're ever interested, Honda-Tech has a fairly helpful welding and fabrication forum where they will critique your welds and give you tips. They're open to just about any car since the guys on there tend to drive/work on everything.

Speaking of which, I finally got the other side done. It started out as a beautiful even-length set-up and slowly morphed into this stunted mutant.
The original mock-up had interference everywhere. I had to trim the tubes and re-weld them to reduce the radius of the bends. It got REAL tight around the engine mount and steering linkage. I also had to consider spark plug removal and AC compressor clearance.
Considering the fact that the car has AC, powersteering, alternator, externally "dual wastegated" turbo system with long-tube headers AND dry-sump oiling all in the same space, I dont think that I did too bad.Took a break from working on the car.
