  • Turbo header pics

Just few pics of the Turbo headers Im building for my 3500 turbo project. They still need to be edited a bit because of interference issues.

This is my first attempt at long tube "semi equal length" headers, so I'm always to any advice and input. ?

    Thanks.

Took a break from working on the car. Got some better tools, got a better shop, got a better job... Its time to burn metal!

Very nice. Though I've never seen a turbocharged Hobart mig.

What car is this engine going in?

They are 16 gauge. 1.65 id 14g stainless piping was just too expensive at the time.

And yes... they were interfering with the K-members. I went ahead and altered the second runner for clearance. I still have to test fit it the car jus to be sure that they fit.

Iv'e been looking at videos about the welding process for 16 gauge 304 stainless. Some really nice results were produced with a 1/16 tungsten sticking out about 1/4 inch and 308 .035 filler rod. I'm going to go order some filler later today and re-fill my second gas bottle for my purging process.

The headers need to be test fit into the car first, so hopefully I don't have any fitment issues.

You are ordering your rod/tungsten? Most cities have welding suppliers and they tend to give you better deals the more you purchase there. There's a place a few miles from our shop that we have fill our tanks, supplies rod etc. Just bought the Hobart there, we see them so often they gave it to us for $733 out the door! I couldn't even come close to that with inline suppliers.

EDIT: I didn't like rod that thin. I use 1/16" rod, 1/16" tungsten (prefer orange/grey ceriated) and set my machine to 100amps D/C, straight polarity, gas on 11cfh - that's with 16ga (.065" wall) tubing.

Damn thats a deal on the 190 Hobart... The one I was looking at yesterday was 900 or so.

I love the look of equal length headers... Nothing compares to the snake work of pipes.

I had a chance to read the first half of your build thread at fullthrottle page. You sir are a gifted individual and a huge inspiration.

I have no doubts you will make it work.

I too have been collecting tools along the way as I build my ride, but nothing as complex as yours.

If you have a local Northern Tool, go in and tell them you saw them online for $800 and they will match it. Trust me, I was shopping for a while and just happen to ask my local welding supply - we also do a lot of business with them.

Give or take 2 inches, they are all near equal length. The only one that really long is the first runner on the pass side. It had to be elongated to clear the oil pump. The car will probably end up sounding a lot like this...
