So, I am building a 3100 turbo and I bought forged 3100 pistons from Diamond Racing. Aside from the other issues that I have encountered with clearance issues and damage due from them shipping them to me. Now, I have a manufacturer defect and I don't think that they will cover my costs. I had gotten to the point in the build where I had the connecting rods installed, and ready to get the rings ground to size. It was at this time that we had discovered that the grooves for the piston rings were made incorrectly. The top 2 grooves were cut identicly. The second groove was suppose to be cut a big bigger than the top groove. So, it cost me $75 to get the pistons pressed out, shipped back to Diamond to have the grooves cut correctly, and then have them reinstalled on the rods. I feel that these costs should not be charged to me. I feel that since this whole chain of costs should be charged to Diamond because they made the the pistons wrong. I have tried to call Jason Barna at Diamond and he does not return my calls. Over the last 3 weeks, I have place 7 calls. Every time the receptionist ask my name, Jason becomes magicaly busy. So far, I am not impressed with this company. I hope thier pistons perform better than their customer service. So, what I'm asking is, am I being unreasonable? Have any of you had similar issues? What reccomendations would you make?

If you had found the problem within 30 days, they would have sent a call tag. They would not have refunded you for any costs involving pin installs or other costs. When I talked to Jason, he made it sound like they were going all out by paying for the return shipping to you. I got a "bill" for your repairs ($0.00) and they should have been shipped back to you by now from what I saw on the sheet. Do you not have them yet?Ben

What do we learn from this thread? Keep a print/specs of the pistons that you order and inspect them upon arrival for every dimension and then post a OHHH look what shiny pistons I got! thread.
If Diamond gave you free repair on those for re-cutting the groove then I have to side with them regarding not refunding you on pin installation, you should have caught that before getting them mounted to the rods.

You are 100% right. I guess I was so blinded by another setback with this project that I didn't think about it that way. You make a lot of sense. I am still disappointed in that they were made wrong, but in the end it all comes down to me. I'll just chalk it up to a learning experience. I have had A LOT of those on this build. Thanks, Brett

I agree it sucks they were made wrong, but at least it was a rather quick fix and didn't require completely new pistons... I'd rather have something undercut then overcut. But it's still a setback so it's a bit of a bummer.
