  • Which Turbo

Which kind of turbo would you think would be the best for a '95 cutlass supreme sl? It has a LQ1 engine.

there are ALOT of different choices... start with a few questions:
A.) horse power Goals (this will also decide if you will need to build the motor/transmission)
B.) Do you want better Low end power, Mid range power, high end power or a combination of Mid/high rpm power (decide how much lag you can live with)
C.) Budget (do you want to spend $2000 or $10,000)

TimG and myself are running a T04E "60" P trim (.63 AR IIRC) (T4 turbo), others are running T3/T4 hybrid turbos, and i think someone i saw had a straight T3..

Best thing to do is to go to Garretts web site, do the caculation for your car and plot it on a graph/compressor map and see what turbo fits your over all goals... you don't want to go to big or to small you will be out of your efficentcy range and will be making alot less power then you would be with a properly sized turbo...

Going off memmory where some of my compressor maping layed out (getting a little fuzzy on exact numbers) but this looks like a good fast spooling turbo for 5-12psi. T3 Super 60. should put Peak performance in the center of the middle of the effencentcy chart... I don't know what the actuall efficentcy is on this cause it doesnt list.... ~72-75% most likely. This would be a good street turbo (300hp) on low boost.

Next would be a Garrett T3/60-1 going to get more power but still be fun. (more like 400 HP range) This one is what i would look closer at:

The GT35R seems to be the most interesting and relevant of the newer GT series of turbos. It should spool really quickly and still be capable of 500+ whp.

I have a T67 p-trim dual ball bearing turbo waiting to go on at home. It's big, but they're known to make 650+ whp on Supras...
