Very cool. When I first bought the car, my dad and I were going to make some headers for it, but I wanted to TIG weld them so I told him I would wait until after I finished wyotech. Now I can actually TIG weld pretty good IMO, but I am now living on my own with a mortgage payment, bills and no spare vehicles to drive. If I end up finding myself a beater I may still take a swing at it. I have access to all the tools needed at work to make the flanges and cut/weld the tubing, but I will have to wait. My other idea was to make myself a stainless true 2.5" DP with a magnaflow cat and then port the stock manifolds. That looks like the more feasable route at the moment, but recent repairs have sapped all my ambition to work on this car at the moment (valve cover gaskets, plug wires, LIM, water pump, gonna replace the plugs here again this weekend (F-you autolite and your crappy platinum plugs)).

Good job on the headers tho, they look awesome. Cant wait to see them on the car and see what kinda numbers you put down.

I would be curious to see what ported stock mani's would do, they get pretty dang narrow and at high RPM's im sure they don't flow enough to keep up... Especially with my turbo. the '95 is pretty easy to build on the bench, the '96-97's are a bit harder because of the "Pill" shaped exhaust ports vs the "D" shaped ports of the '95 and prior. the rear doesn't look to be very hard if making a true NA header either.... weather it will make any power on a NA car..... I don't know, there is alot of size, lenth, bend science into making a header for NA from what i understand..

Yeah I know for a header to work at its full potential, a good bit of design needs to go into them. If I did end up making headers, my plan was to make as equal lenth primaries as possible and try and keep them from having to snake around too much. With the age of the car tho, I dont know if spending the time/money on them would really be worth it. I dont plan to turbo the car unless I walk into a chunk of spare cash somehow so they would be for an NA application. I think the ported mani's and DP would be a better bet. For the car being mostly stock, I would think ported manifolds would be sufficient. I think the DP is more of a restriction with the double wall necking it down so much.

Its strange my '95 didnt have a double wall DP. it was 2.5" from the factory. lol i hear ya tho its hard to spend much money on the old hoopty anymore... but i just put in a built trans. so im dedicated to keeping it for a while.. the engine smokes lol i think my rings are a little fried... BUT it still runs fine (fingers crossed). Might have to have the MAD Scientist rip it apart and replace the rings!... Maybe have him tune my NOS Timing too...

Does it smoke all the time or just during start up? I know my valve guides leak a tiny bit. If I let the car sit for more than a day or two it puffs a little blue smoke when I start it. How many miles on your longblock? Ive got 54xxx on mine now so hopefully everything is nice and tight down there.

I think it was z34pheonix from MCF and mymonte that was the one that said they have the double walled DP. Maybe the 96-97s are different then the others. All I know is that we have a nice stainless 2.5" exhaust system off a cadillac or something and an old stainless DP from a BMW laying around work that between the two of them have plenty of bends and material to make a nice DP. Hell if I didnt have a stainless exhaust already there is probably enough to make a whole catback as well.

puffs a little on start up (car sat for 2 years during turbo fabrication). mostly when i am sitting at idle... Drivethrew's are not happy with me unless they are quick... i know mine is a single wall. making a stock replacement DP should be cake. I have 152,000 miles and counting on my stock motor. ~60K of it turboed.

sure its not a turbo leak causing the oil burn?

pretty sure its the engine... Turbo still feels tight.... AND when i power brake it the smoke DUMPS out the WG dump tube lol looks like its on fire it smokes alot. My guess is either valve seals or rings.

That rear design looks a lot like the ones I did for Loner666, it actually went in without so much as rocking the engine forward, and cleared the brake booster even.

What a/r t4 turbine you have?

I will have to look back threw my old posts before it went in to see... IIRC its a .68 A/R

I believe it is the same as the 2nd one from the bottom:

The reason your car smokes when you start it up and sit at a Idle is that your valve stem seals are leaking the dead give on that is if you let it sit for a few hours or over night it will smoke on start up and if they are real bad when you sit at a idle which means they are pretty much leaking al the time.

Custom made to order is the only option. Don't know who could make them for you though....
