  • 3400 turbo? tranny problems?

hey guys. ive been debating for sometime now for a little boost. ive x'ed the idea for a supercharger, and im not looking towards the turbo side. their are a few questions though.
    1. my car and tranny have around 62000 miles on it, and i'd love not to break anything seeing that this car is my daily. i wanted to see what boost setting is good, or what im going to have to do (note: im not making this a track car, i just want some rolling power, no launching)
    2. i was looking at like t3/t4 turbo's or a 70 trim, but i just need to know what is the best bang for my buck turbo, nothing too rediculous, just something that doesnt spool at idol.
    3. what is it going to run me in the long run, like piping, wastegate, timer, blah blah blah. just a quote would be awesome.

thanks a lot in advance for the help everyone.

for a little guy, he runs pretty good

i used a manual trans, but your 4t60e could use a shift kit to handle sloppy shifts and help band/clutch life. best bang for your buck turbo depends on what power you want.

It depends on the amount of boost you plan to run. The 4T60's are rated for ~280 lbs-ft of input torque with reasonable reliability.

depends on weight as well. being an 03, it's gotta be a 4t65e. your MC should weigh in around 3400-3500, depending on options. as long as you don't go too ridiculous with the boost it should survive.

but it wouldn't hurt to try and shave weight somewhere or install a LSD or run tires that aren't so sticky that when they hook the diff explodes....

Buying brand name parts expect to spend about $2500-$3000 total. i would keep it at a conservitive 5-7PSI. If you do it correctly (injectors, tune, IC, ect...) you should not have problems with engine or tranny. Obviously if your power braking it and launching hard, doing burn outs and what not your tranny will prob. give out on you sooner or later. Large T3/T4 hybrid or a large straight T3 will be a good low boost turbo for your car and will be fairly compact. My 4T60-E is beat on quite often and it is holding up just fine.. I am at 5000ft elevation and large turbo (lag) so it doesn't build much boost till ~3200 rpms helps my trans from exploding cause it eases into boost nicely.

Also make sure to run a Good Trans cooler... will help the tranny stay alive in the long run. I have a universal B&M super cooler on mine.
