2.8 hot rod

hello i have a 1993 gmc sonoma 5 speed with a 2.8 60v6
from what im told from other pages in this forum my 2.8 head is the same as any 2.8-3.4 head out( outupt and cc's) from GM (rwd)... so if i wanted to boost, what stock super charger from another car will bolt to my head and allow me to use my current FI system

i was thinking 2.8 head with a 3.4 bock but people told me this was not like my vw (where i used a 2.0 block and a 1.8 head to make high compression )
so if i build my head and put it on a 3.4 block i guess then i will have a 3.4 engine... with regular comp ....

i have seen a few aftermarket chargers (for a lot of money), but with this engine/ head combo being so common isn't there some stock set up you could use WITH out having to do much blue print work and using my current fuel system

what other things might i have to do to make this work that i might not be think of .....

Nobody really currently makes a bolt on supercharger for a RWD 60 degree. Fagol used to make a super charger but I think its on a made to order basis. I've heard of B&M also making one but I'm 100% sure they are on the rare side and hard to find. Supercharging is gonna be out of the $1000 dollar budget you posted on the other site also.

As suggested turbo charging is gonna be your cheapest bet.

1st are thare turbo kits for my set up so that i can keep everything stock ........ or if i wanted to go NA what is the most cheep power i can get from the 3.4 with my current FI system ... like with minor head work mild cam the 4.3 injector .. maby a lighted fly wheel .. maby msd ignition


is this platform able to make power in my sonoma?

There are no turbo kits made for us or I'd prolly be running one. The model is aver 10 years old and not one many people look to hop up so the aftermarket has left us to fend for our self.

I think with the right cam, ported and polished heads, headers, and maybe a few other odds and ends 200hp might not be out of the question. Thats my goal for the 3.4 I'm building right now.


These engines were never really designed to be some a street thumping power house in the s-series. There are improvements that can be done but your not gonna be out racing bigblock chevelles with a 2.8 truck. I think you are putting way too high hopes on the 2.8 than whats there to be expected. About the best N/A 60 degree s-series build I've seen was Betterthanyou's in his little sonoma and I'm not even sure what his HP is. Maybe he will chime in over here and give you more guidance.

If your wanting boosted Raven has already tried to explain that to you over on the s10 site. He built one killer single snail setup in a older blazer (i think it was) that was putting some good power out.

ok well ... so basically this is a good 1st swap to make my truck a little better, and it will last till i am able to do the v8 or 4.3 swap the right way .....


any one have any idea of a price range i should look to pay for the 3.4 block / engine
i would like one with less that 50-60k

and any one a a company that sells parts to rebuild my head , and around how much after milling it should cost to rebuild the head

Considering how long those engines have been out, you are probably going to have a really tough time finding one with that mileage on it. Then if you find it, you are probably going to have to pay out the nose and butt simultaneously to get it (at least since it is around flu season, this is easier to do).

Some of those are still on the pricey side for me, and I wonder what the ones are thinking that don't quote a price. They probably don't want to give you sticker shock.

just get a 3400 topend & put it on that bad boy-theres your high comp & your motor with be able to BREATHE!

stay away from iron heads-if you spend a lot of time or money or both on them-you will be crying in the end when you find out how superior a set of 3400 heads with a light home-port job flow by comparison. not to mention port fuel injection!!
