  • Looking for boost... ;-)

Okay, I have two turbos. One is a TDE04L-10T I snagged off a junked Cummins 3.3l diesel. Not much info on this little bugger at all. The other is another diesel turbo, this one from a GM 6.5l engine. (IHIRHC6 GM-8 ). The little one looks like I could almost throw it in there hard enough and it would work. There's still room for the battery, wouldn't need to intercool it for a few pounds of shits and giggles. My question is what is too small? I'm only looking to make a couple pounds and break the ice, so to speak, paving the way for the bigger turbo in the future. If I put the bigger turbo in there now it means more downtime and work, and money. (intercooler, wastegate, BOV).

Just want your thoughts on this before I get stupid.

X2 from me... even low boost benefits from a proper IC

Well, the tiny turbo's got way too much bearing play for my liking. So it's time to start intercooler hunting.

TDO4's are tiny. thats what the single cam honda's run on some of the smaller kits... WAY too small. it would choke you as much or more then it helps you... A good T3/T4 is your best bet and they are relativly cheap.

i'm assuming this is for the 3400 lumina in the sig?

if so, best options for a DD car are either T3/T4 hybrid(as suggested above), or a T61. either one can make a damn good turbo on that motor depending on exactly how much boost you're looking for.

The bigger turbo should work. Remember, that diesel may be twice the size, but it only revs half as high.

heres a compressor map for the larger turbo-stay away from the TD04 & keep it for a 4 cylinder, quad, or motorcycle project

the diesel 6.5 turbo is a damn good turbo. theyre close in comparison to a t3/t4. make sure u get the lastest design as of its bigger compressor. intercool it and you will have a tire roasting beast!
