  • Installed my BOV...

Well i finially after 3 years of looking at the damn thing got it installed.... Sometimes im just damn lazy lol..

Max-rev atmospheric BOV about ~12" before the MAF... i must say it does help a couple minor annoyances.. I was loading up on fuel when i let off the throttle and got bad gas fumes in the car (esp. with the window down).. now that the pressure is releasing it no longer has the ohh so sweet gas fumes i have grown accustom to

Also no more wastegate flutter/compressor back spooling... im sure my turbo is going to love me a little longer becasue of it...

I have it mounted in the drivers side fender well on the cool side of the charge pipe.. Might i add that IC does its job.. the hot side of the charge pipes get almost to hot to touch sometimes and the cool side in the evenings is just about ice cold

Def. not ricer sounding, i wasnt sure how it would sound.. I know the HKS SSQ and the Greedy Type S are pretty common choice among imports. mine is very mellow sounding just a rush of air, no chirping/whistling/ect..

What sort of BOV did you install? Mind making a recording of it? In about 20 years when I can afford to do a turbo setup on my car, I wouldn't mind knowing what sortsa parts I would want before hand.

It is a "Max-Rev" bov. i will try and make a clip w/ sounds.. Lol it sounds like a air compressor hose being disconnected... Just "PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF". Only reason i bought it over something else is a guy locally to me had it and needed some $$, figured i would help out a friend of a friend..

did it end up a little louder than a 1 g dsm bov.? i have a crushed 1 g its pretty damn loud of a PSHHHHTT . which i had on my Z and it is what im putting on the fiero. i do agree that the ssqv is extremly common every subi around here has one.

its actually pretty mellow. i had a 1g DSM on my TPG and it was a little more prodominate then the max rev.

Those 1g DSM BOVs are pretty damn loud crushed. I used to have a 1g Mitsu GSX AWD and those BOVs are damn popular in the turbo world. Maybe cause they aren't made out of crappy plastic parts or faulty springs. The 1g BOVs are re-circulation BOVs but make great atmospheric BOVs. I think they are capable up to 25-30 psi boost without turbo flutter. I miss my DSM!

If you want a good loud BOV, go for a RFL (Real F***ing Loud) BOV's or the SSQV. RFLs and SSQV can be made to atmospheric BOVs without any type of turbo sheer. If you have any excess turbo pressure backflowing into your turbo, thats bad news for the compressor wheel and seals. Its kinda like a 747 getting hit by wind sheer and having major turbulence in the jet engine. Your turbo acts the same way. The BOVs I mentioned will get rid off all that residual turbo backpressure. Greddy Type-S BOVs tend to leak at the diaphram and would only hold up to stock boost of 10psi. Real crappy after 10psi. RFL's and SSQV's are made to hold up to high boost applications and such. Not only that the SSQV can be made into a re-circulation BOV. So it serves a dual purpose. If you have any questions about turbo setups and stuff like that PM me. I have had too many turbo cars in my day that I built on a hell of a low budget and my Grand Prix is the first car that has been NA other than my '03 350Z.
