  • Nitrous on High mileage engine

Just wondering why I always hear its not the best thing to run N20 on an engine with high miles?(100k+) What would need to be done to make it safe or safer to run Nitrous?

There are many things wrong with using a motor not setup and/or with high miles.

    The ring gap is wrong
    Tune is off (fuel timing/spark)
Cam is not right for it
Everything is jsut not spec'd for it

With that aside, it's a cheap durable engine.... Spray it to death!

      Kinda confused?

Only looking to run 35-50 shot. What if one were to get an MSD ignition to control the spark/retard and run it a bit rich to prevent detonation?

Is this just a car to beat on at the track or will it have a life in the DD world?

I would just get it dyno tuned for a 50 shot and call it done. Or you can pick up learning the curve of OBD1 and moates stuff (search google "moates")

Find out if you can get HPtuner or someone with a DHP to let you tune your car.

                  DOOO IT!!!!!!!!!!

I ran a 100 wet shot on my stock 3400 daily... Granted it was a rebuit motor... BUT I still went through FelPro headgaskets pretty easily... This new motor in the project will always get GM headgaskets hopefully that holds up to nitrous better

well I'm about to do the LIM gasket replacement. Should I used the felpro perma-dry gaskets or get the GM ones? or is there no difference for the LIM gasket. Im def. not gonna run 100 shot, hoping for 50 and maybe a 75 here and there.
