  • Help with turbo manifolds

I am going to start working on my turbo manifolds for my 3400 and im not exactly sure where to start for parts. Where would you suggest I get all of my tubing and flanges?

are you building a "Log" style or a "tubular" style? Look on ebay for the flanges or have a machine shop make them. as for the manifold, Jegs, JCwhitney, Summit ect.. have prebent tubing if you make a tubular style. If your going with a Log style Vibrent performance has "Weld Bends" (T's, Elbows, Straight)..

I dunno if the 3x00 cars can do what i did but on the DOHC's the front stock log manifold bolts right up to the rear. if you can do that with the 3x00 manifold then go to a junkyard and for $10 you have a rear manifold. Then you just need a custom X-over and Downpipe and your set.

your log manifolds are going to be stronger and more reliable but tipically don't flow as good as a tubular... But you will have less problems with them. Again i have 2 stock logs on mine and make good power on the stock logs.

Ok thanks I am actually going with the tubular style manifolds so I will check out summit and a few of those other sites for tubing.

And for flanges would these be good? http://www.milzymotorsports.com/miva...=3x00ExFlanges

I know they will work for my engine I just dont know if I would be better off getting my own made or just buying those.

Ok I have been searching those sites and I am finding alot of the parts I am looking for but I cant seem to find a 3 to 1 collector all they have are 4 to 1 so does anyone know where to find these?

EDIT: I found one does anyone have another place that has them?

I can sell you some nicer flanges than that for a little more money, or ask betterthanyou if he is still making them, also better quality.

3 to collectors are available from S&S and Stan's headers.

If you are making them from schedule 40, you can get the 90*'s from McMaster-Carr.com, but I have used the 14 gage u bends from Stan's on a tubro kit and they are holding up nicely.

Wow, those Milzy ones are a terrible design! I'd like to see someone get to the spark plug easily with those installed. Geoff's (betterthanyou) are a much better design (because I did the design ). They are the flanges you see in the post above, available in both O-port and D-port configs. And IIRC, he sells them for around $45 or so, so cheaper than Milzy's as well...

What would you suggest I use for gauge of pipe on the header pipes and my downpipe/exhaust?

14ga or better at the minimum.

                  Here's my flanges...

Are all of the collectors on stans headers 14ga? I know the tubing shows gauge but the collectors dont.

Also those are some nice flanges I will definatly consider those once I start buying these parts.

Another question on stans headers what exactly would be the diameter and radius of the u bend pipes? As in which is what? I know thats a stupid question but I dont want to mess this up because of stupidity on my part. lol

I used 1 5/8's, they fit nice over the ports. You can get away with 1.5' but there may be some beating of pipes to fit the "d" shape (should say there "will" be).

                      The collectors are 14ga.

For U/J-bends, measurements are as follows...

Diameter - overall diameter of pipe (ie, if you are doing 1.5" headers, look for 1.5" bends)
Gauge - match your other piping, ie 14 ga.
Radius - This is the radius of the bend, measured from the centerline of the tube. So, for a 1.5" diameter, 3" radius bend, your outer width of the bend with be 7.5", and your inner width will be 4.5"

                        Even better - I found a pictoral description - http://www.spdexhaust.com/J-bendsB.html#

Here's a good source for u-bends. I've used them before and they are a dependable vendor. Their prices are very good also.
