  • Supercharged Propane 3.4

Here it is boys!!, Stage 2 of my supercharged propane 3.4.....

    11:1 compression, 15 psi boost

Nice work, what are the benefits to running propane over gasoline? It is already apparent that in naturally aspirated applications like ethanol it doesn't pack as much energy, yet some vehicles particularly industrial have been switched to it so there must be some kind of savings benefit.

Well right now propane is 55 cents a liter and gas is 129. It has 109 octane so I can run high boost without lowering my compression ratio.

I love it.. No ecm, harness, programming, sensors, or even a fuel pump! And it burns cleaner, heck, you wouldn't BBQ over gasoline or diesel!

Ethanol isn't as efficient as it could be because auto makers design the motor to run on gasoline too. if they built a motor specifically for ethanol, you would get better mileage then you wuold know if running ethonal

Gasoline engines run probably on average around 9.5:1 for a modern gas engine. Bump it up to oh 12-13:1 which you can do with ethonal, and you will see an increase in mileage and power.

Ethanol needs higher compression to be as efficient as gasoline, and can run higher CR because of the higher octane rating.

No ecm, sensors, injectors hardly any wiring.

I've got a performance propane carb from australia

Malory Unilite LED Distributor, Streetfire(MSD) spark Box and coil and that's all she needs!

Dude that looks awesome. Your fab work with the SC mounted on top of the plenum is really creative.

Can't wait to see / hear the finished product with all the pipework in place and the boost going into the engine.

                    Later,

Does a propane system work like a diesel where you just put all the air you can into it (hence the SC) and throttle with the fuel supply?

No it still has a throttle body and maintains a fuel/ air ratio. Look at the link he posted to the propane carb system supplier he used. Pretty good info.

I should have some test run videos in a week or so. I modded the blower to whine more, apparently it worked! I really hope I quiets down with all the piping on. Right now, I can't rev the engine over 4000 rpm because the sound is so over powering...

Ya, the engine is air throttled like a regular gas engine.

Will look forward to your videos! Say; how do you mod a blower to whine more without adversely affecting the blower efficiency? I'm just curious - not being familiar with this type blower.

There are slots in the housing that cancel out the noise, I filled them back in.
