  • Question : trying to build a rmt

has anyone on here done a remote mount turbo before?i want to build one for my 92 z24 5speed. i want to run low boost right now since the motor is still very stock.im thinking around 5-7 psi range.does anyone know what would be a good turbo to use? im looking at some t3/t4's on ebay and they arnt too much to buy, same with the flange. but im looking at the trims ...and i have no clue what im looking at and what the mean.maybe next year or the year after that ill be doing a 3400 swap so i can fit in, maybe boost that as well.. but for right now i want boost.i like to research the heck out of stuff before i do it.im not running a cat right now and dont care about the sniffer ,i get my cars passed for about 60 bucks thru a friend.any help with this build would be very helpfull. please dont rag on my 3.1 ... i still kinda like it... its what made me fall in love with the 60* in the first place.

    thank you again

Just put it in the engine bay. Do you really want 30 feet of oil lines running under your car? If you kick up a rock and it busts the line, game over for the motor. I would imagine there is a lot more thought to put into turbo sizing as well. Unless there is absolutely positively no way to put it in the engine bay, then dont go remote.

I have built one of these for a 3100 and I could probably answer a fair amount of questions to get you going if you want to do it, as well as a few parts that I have left over. PM me with any certain questions you have and Ill gladly answer what I can for you

BTW mine was built using alot of ebay parts and worked well on the stock small port 3100. Only had a few minor issues that I could have solved but went with underhood when I installed my 3400/3500 hybrid

Theres a Cavi like yours that had a rear mount turbo too. It did dam well. The guy swaped to a 3*00 motor and ran 12s with it. He used a electric motor and a resivoir for the oil suppy for the turbo.

89jyturbo is his name, and yes thats the idea that i want to do with mine, but since he is running with a 3400 and i want to run mine with the 3.1 for now... i need to know what size turbo i should run so i dont blow the motor.im almost finished with my rebuild, all thats left is to rebuild the heads.. so the motor is going to be a fresh stocker and once its broken in right i want to boost it untill i can afford a complete 3400 or 3500 swap
