I have seen a few external wastegates hooked up to only 1 bank of cylinders. I can understand it due to engine bays never being large enough, but how effective is it?

Dang, that's a tight packing. I don't know if you can put it in like mine is.....
Take a look at these (Under Pics)
I'm not sure if have room in there I would try to set it up more like that. Do you have any room in your quarter panel for a filter?It\'s ugly, and turbocharged!
264 HP and 284 ft/lbs at the wheels(@9psi), power curve like none other!
And the transaxle to get it to the ground!

Probably not. The one I have now has an internal wastegate, the turbo that I want doesn't.
There is an A/C canister pretty much right below the turbo and tranny shift linkages filling up the rest of the area underneath. Not much room up top either. I can do it to just one bank fairly easily, both banks is possible but much more difficult. I got a DeltaGate and the thing is huge.
Yes, I have room in the fender for a filter but its not going in there. I had one down there originally but every time the pavement got wet so did the filter, the turbo would suck a low pressure area and the oil out of the seals mixing it with the water rather well to make this white greasy mess. I poured more then 1qt of water out of my IC piping more then once.

there is plenty of room in a w-body for a external gate. we also used a turbonetics delta gate on tims and ran a dump tube to the ground in front of the transmission past the A/C reciever dryer behind the radiator. there is plenty of room.
you can also dump the outlet of the gate into the downpipe so that it bypasses the turbo. that is how its is supposed to be done. that way you are running all exhaust gasses through the cat and making the air clean for everyone.
you want to hook the gate in where the x-over collects. if you run it on one bank or the other it will cause you to go leaner in on bank or the other. so it is best to put the gate right at the collection point.

That dump tube, how loud is it? I've heard that when it opens it sounds like straight pipes.Shane "RedZMonte"
