  • 3100 turbo questions

OK I have a 94 cutlass supreme with a 3100 v6. I think it would be cool to fab up a turbocharger. My question is can anyone list the parts needed? I want to use salvage yard parts, Cheap is the key! I have no experance with turbo systems. Any direction would be great!

94 is untune-able ECM. Swapping to a 96 OBDII setup would be required to tune it. Or you could just get a RRFPR although that's not ideal for fueling, but works, and won't let you reduce spark when boost comes on.

It's gonna be all custom. Pretty much most turbo's that people have used on 3400's will be pretty close to what you'd want for the 3100 as they are really similar. Search around and see what others are using for type of turbo.

As far as the other stuff, it's all custom of course. Some links to sites you can search and see some turbo builds would be:

and search here too there's been a few turbo builds.

Since it'll all be custom there is no exact part list but here's a general one

      Turbo
Wastegate (if the turbo doesn't have an internal wastegate)
      Blow off valve
Oil feed and oil return lines
      fittings for the oil lines
Intercooler and intercooler piping (both are optional but advised)
      silicone intake piping couplers
      clamps for the silicone couplers
either valve cover breathers or check valves for the pcv system (don't want to be pushing boost through the valve covers)
      Battery relocation kit
Filter for the intake side of the turbo
      Custom made downpipe
      Custom made turbo exhaust manifolds
Flanges and gaskets for the exhaust piping (v-bands work very well)
      Vacuum lines
      Boost gauge
some tuner or some way tune it
wideband o2 sensor (not completely necessary but recommended)
      larger fuel injectors
