Technically you could run more boost and a smaller pulley with lower compression. As far as supporting mods, definitely get some exhaust mods (headers or PEMs, bigger DP, high flow cat, etc). Also iirc the rsm preprogrammed "tune" is horrible, they also say to put the maf before the s/c instead of close to the TB where it should be, and I've heard all sorts of bad things about premature s/c failure (although I've also heard it's a somewhat easy fix, just don't remember what it is). I'd definitely invest in some tuning software or go to someone to tune it if I were you, maybe some bigger fuel injectors too if the rsm kit doesn't already come with them. Also as far as tuning goes, I'd invest in a wideband O2 sensor (keep in mind it wont replace the stock narrow band O2, it's just meant to compliment it), that way you can precisely tune your fuel trims and such.

He won't have to worry about RSM's tuning as his car is an OBDI system and the RSM kit was made for OBDII cars.

The premature failures were from the use of rubber-walled bearings and the key for the pulley was made of low-grade steel.

Look into changing over to the TGP 3.1 code with a 2-Bar MAP. There are lots of people running boost on 3.1's using that setup.

parts for your car still sells it i think

it's pretty pricey though at $4400, if I were you I'd go the turbo route instead, you could make a setup better than that for half the price.
