the swooshing noise is probly just the turbo starting to spool or your wastegate opening partialy at open throttle. no worries.

drove to school very easy, not about 3000 rpm. no buring oil. drove to lunch, had to keep up with a porsche and got to 0 on the boost gauge. got to the restraunt and it was smoking. So That is leading me to think that once it gets to a certain rpm the oil pressure at the turbo is above 30 psi and gets by he seals. I drove to work after lunch and got no smoke and I let it idle for about 3 sec and no smoke.

You could inline an oil guage too get a reading. 50.00 guage should take out most of the guess work. It's cheaper than rebuilding a turbo.

But how can I see it driving
I already have an oil pressure gauge on the T that I branched off at the block. That should give me a pretty close reading.

What is the 3.4 dohc oil pressure at 2500 rpm. I think that at 2500 rpm it goes about 30 psi at the turbo and according to garrett that is the max oil pressure. So I am going to drive it at 2000 rpm tonight and tomorrow and see how it runs. Because I just got back from going to fedex and it smoked, but on the way back i drove 2000 rpm and it died down alot. I will drive it tonight and tomorrow and see how it reacts. I am going to pull the filter off tonight and see if there is any oil in the compressor and I hopefully should be getting the oil pressure reducer tomorrow. If it was my rings would it burn oil all the time?

took the turbo off and what do ya know, oil coming out every where. So I brought it to a local turbo shop and they said TOO much oil pressure. So I very happy. He said if that does not fix the problem then I have to have a sump pump put in. To pump the oil out of the turbo. I fixed the drain line and am going for a ride.

What kind of turbo is it? I have used several T3 turbos over the years without a restricter and never had a problem with stock engine oil pressure running as high as near 80 psi for the Fiero 2.8 and at least 60 plus on a V8. The most resent turbo that started smoking would do so when run really hard and that was because the bearings were wearing out and the clearances were increased. Maybe your oil return line is causing oil to back up into the turbo on sustained runs, or larger turbos are more susceptible to leaking under higher oil pressures.

Where is it draining to, above the oil line in the pan?

I put it up as high as I could put it. I just took it off because i was leaking oil at the drain port on the pan. When I took it off no oil came out so I am high enough. It has not burned any oil since I redid the oil drain line. So far so good. Hopefully I will have room for the catch can. Its is going to be very tight. THere is no more room as of right now. But oh well. I will shoot some pics up.

Everyone on here is right if you have enough play in the turbo that the vanes hit the housing then you got a junk turbo. Get a new one. Here is an idea why don't you just try disconnecting the pipe going from the intercooler or turbo to the intake? Basically run it NA and waste off all the boost. If it stops puffing oil you know what your problem is. Good luck.

It does not burn any oil anymore. I checked the shaft play and came up with .013. which is perfect. It was the drain line, but it smokes again its the feedline. But I have the reducer on call if need be,lol. I did bring the turbo to a shop here in orlando and said its in perfect condition, I was just seeing things. Anywyas I now have a bad intake manifold gasket or egr because its idleing really bad and the vacuum gauge is at 10inhg. SOOO, I will fix that next.
