  • MAP placement

I just been thinking about how the MAP sensor works. When you boost a car that sensor will read pressure and not vaccum. What if you put the sensor tube before the S/C or Turbo? Will this work? I dont really know about the mechanics of the MAP. And I kinda assume if this worked it would be done already, but I thought id ask.

map sensor- manifold absolute pressure. it is designed to read the pressure in the intake manifold, weather its positive or negative pressure. it must be hooked to the intake manifold.

a map sensor always reads vacume, boosted motor or not. a 1 bar map is used in n/a motors, it reads -14.7 to 0psi. a 2 bar map reads -14.7 to +14.7 psi and is used for anything under under 14 psi boost. anything higher requires a 3 or 4 bar map sensor.

You know what I think I knew that already... As a matter of fact I did. I think I messed this question up with another and just didnt think about it. Thanks for the reply though.

In an intake pipe before a turbo/SC there would be next to no pressure for a sensor to read. Maybe a small amount of vacuum due to the natural resistance of an air filter during boost but that's it.
