  • first post! 3400 Q and supercharger Q as well

hello all im brandon and im new to the site. i currently own a 1996 chevy beretta with the factory 2.2L 5 speed engine in it (urber slow, but i did some stuff to the engine BIG MISTAKE) anywho i was wanting to do a 3400 swap, ive been wanting to do it for quite some time now. i was going to use this beretta as a DD car, and get a mustang lx 5.0L but that didnt work out the way i wanted it to. so ive decided to hang on the the beretta for a while and see how much money i can waste!!! anyway i went to the junkyard a while back (i know of two but this guy is cheaper than the rest) i asked how much for a 3400 out of a new impala and he wanted $650 for it.....is this too much? i was hoping like $350-$450 at the most. and then i saw a M90 supercharger off of a buick reviera and i asked how much for it for the lower intake and the supercharger, and he said $150. OK heres what im wanting to know...will the lower 3800 intake bolt on the the 3400??? so i can put the supercharger on and all??? or do i have to do a hybrid swap? also my beretta now has the OBII from the factory and was wanting to know what all i needed whenever i pull the motor do i need all the wiring? and all? im not even sure about tuning this thing, or even how the OBII works all i know is i have OBII which everyone says is good to have. also i hear my izuzu tranny will bolt right up to the 3400 so i dont see a problem there i guess??? what all is needed to do the 3400 swap as well. i read a little on the forums and such, but i would like to see if i can get a more in depth help from your experts on this(and i already see a bunch of ya here)..... HELP!!!!!

thx for your time in reading this...

As far as I know the 3800 is a 90* v6 and the 3400 is a 60* V6 and therefore the 3800 LIM will not bolt on to the 3400 block however someone might be able to tell you about the m90 and the 3400...

Yup, the 3800 stuff won't work. It's too much trouble to make it work. Only 1 guy I know of cut his 3400 top manifold, welded on a plate to bolt up the supercharger but he had a huge hole in his hood. If you don't know how to tune, best to forget about that until you learn more about boost/etc and go the turbo route for more power.

You'll need to find a 96 v6 L-body car and get the engine wiring harnes and computer. I would guess the interior harness is the same.. If the car has a gauge cluster with a tachometer, grab that too so you have a v6 tach and oilpressure/volt meter. And get the oil pressure sending unit in that case cause it's variable and needed for the gauge.

The izuzu transmission I think will bolt up, but is not the best 5speed tranny. A getrag 282 from a 93 and older beretta/corsica would be best since they are more durable.

It might be best to buy for cheap a whole 96 v6 lbody car so you can yank all the parts you need (exhaust if you're not doing custom, wires, hoses, mounts, etc) for the V6. If you could find a wrecked one cheap maybe? You don't want to end up getting nickel and dimed to death getting all the little things you'll end up needing. Then buy a 3400 separate and the getrag transmission separate (probably need linkage too??)

Yep, that black Z26 beretta with the M90 sticking out in front of the hood inspired me to do the same thing. i have a tad bit of welding experience seeing as i was in ag class. how hard do you think it would be to do the swap?? or should i just get the 3400 and do a turbo swap to it LOL id like to do a supercharger seeing as it will be on the "cheap" side of things the turbo stuff is hella expensive. ive seen a full getrag tranny on ebay for like $ 800 shipped, but thats rediculous. ill see about the 3400. i hear the 3800 is way harder to install/tune with a 5 speed trans in it. i have a 94 V6 gauge cluster from a Z26. so im good there. and i can get some of those parts cheap. will i need new or better yet get V6 driveshafts i hear the ones i have will snap in two and break if i launch really hard(and if i have some what of a fast 3400) i really want to do the swap, ive been doing "Some" research in this subject to better understand it, but it will be about another week before i go hunting for a 3400. ive seen a wreaked impala(i really want a 3400 out of a GAGT i hear they flow better than some of the others) at the yard with it. ill see if i can get the price down for it. if not the ill fork over the cash, because hes the only resonable junkyard salesman around the others are very mean and do shitty business... i know first hand. never going back to the other guy. by the way wont i just need custom mounts for the 3400?? or what? i dont want to go 3100 LOL i think some of my stuff will be comatable for the 2.2L to the 3400 swap.
