Be careful with the T61... There is an older T61 that really isn't an impressive turbo. The newer T61's use the GT35R compressor wheel with an older style T3 or T4 turbine. Those T61's that use the GT35R compressor wheel are a GREAT match for the engine. That would work really well and be cheaper than a GT35R.

Good T61 with T3 and T4 turbines (Honda-Tech sometimes has them cheaper from sponsors)

    Good 60-1 combos in T3 and T4

    BAD T61

There are two problems with this turbo. 1. These turbos are never what they claim to be and give lots of specs that don't match. 2. The reliability on no-name e-bay turbos is very sketchy.

There is nothing wrong with a T61 if you get a true T61 turbo. For a SBC its small though. I dont' know anyone running that small of a turbo on 350 Ci. Hell the 4.6 stangs are running 67's or 76's

I didnt' plot a T61 but its prob not that bad for a 60 degree v6.

My buddy is running a 61mm turbo on his v6 3.1L and is making 7 psi by 2500 rpm. its a Precision SC6152E which is a 35R wheel with a reg journal bearing CHRA. No lag, great street turbo. 78% eff at redline.

That's what I meant. You don't know what you are getting on E-Bay untill it is in your hands. I bought a 57 trim (according to the ad) and it measured 46 after I opened it and measured the comp wheel. But I guess I deserve it for buying a $170 turbo.

You can probably find new T3/T4's with a 60 trim or 60-1 compressor for $500-600. The Precision turbo SC series are just Garrett T3/T4's in Precision housings. The SC61 as mentioned above uses the compressor from the GT35R. The 60 trim is a good compressor and matches well, but the 60-1 and GT35R compressor wheels are a bit better. Check Honda-Tech for the best deals on all of these. The same vendors I listed earlier with direct links to their turbos often sell them for hundreds of dollars less to Honda-Tech members during their sales.

If you really want to go with an e-bay turbo (any turbo that is under $500 new is an ebay turbo), you might want to look at the 'T70'. It's much smaller than a real T70 (the e-bay guys have NO idea what they're selling), but should be close to the right size and a few guys on H-T have had good luck with them.

This is an interesting thread. He's comparing a T04B H3 with a T4/60-1 and a GT35R. The smallest turbine wheel is on the GT35R, but it has the largest compressor wheel. I have attached a copy of his dyno chart showing the GT35R versus the T04B H3. Keep in mind that this is a 3L V6. Yours should spool faster.

Don't want to risk an ebay turbo, but don't want to go the price of a GT. I may have to lower my hp exspections. A 3.4 with pp iron heads does have limits maybe I can come up with a turbo that will allow for alum. 3400 heads in the furture.

me and a few other ppl have verified some of the ebay turbos
the ebay t04e 57 trim is actually an t04e 46 trim
the ebay t61 is a t04s forget what trim though
                  the ebay t70 is a t61

they are actually copys of master power turbos not garret turbos, but once u know the actual specs on them u can look up the correct compressor maps
oh and as far as reliability ive got 30k miles on an ebay t04e with boost levels over 18 psi without anyproblems, all the new style ebay turbos are properly balanced, and have the oiling issues fixed, compared to what they were over a year ago

I wouldnt' say all the new style are good. They are made by 10 year old chinese kids.

Dude a turbo for $180 bucks? Its gotta be garbage. FYI a 46 trim is horriblely inefficent on our motors.

shaun u need to reread the maps for a iron headed 3.1 again 46 trim @ 18 psi sits at 70-72 % anything above that eff drops rapidly
first deep into the 12's not quite 450 hp
