the vacuum thingy is a vacuum modulator, it lets the transmission know what kind of load the engine is on so that the trans acts accordingly, it has the same function as a TV cable from older cars.94 Grand Prix

but anyway.
the 3100 imo is a pretty reliable engine.
picky on somethings (look at my hot mess thread)
And yes the 3100's AND 3.1's are fantastic motors. They have their stupid little flaws, but are fantastic imo.'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons
I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

i was telling my friend who has a 90 gp se 3.1 about ya.
he was surprised...and with that story it convinced him to keep his car.
but uh yea apparantly they're pretty tough becuase his tranny is out of adjustment.
i took off and it went all the way 7,000rpms i was like oh shit.
he was like yea it's been doing that awhile.
today my car has been ranned...still gonna continue.
i think it's more of an electrical thing.1992 nissan maxima se (190hp/205tQ)

haha nice!
Ya man I picked up my '93 Sunbird up yesterday. 237k on the ticker, and this is the fastest 3.1 I've owned. In fact, this thing would assrape my supercharged bonneville SSEI i think. You hit it with this thing in fifth gear, and it just takes off. Very sweet car. You'd never guessed it had that many miles either.
Oh and it like to torque steer into second
Good news though! I raced my Fiance's lumina today, and while my '91 GP SE was DEAD even with it (with a friend in my car), this car completely RAPED that lumina left to right. (btw.. this lumina has the same 3.1 rated at 140hp, but it only has 108k miles on it )
But 7k rpm shifting is NOT right. What the HECK happened there???'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

And yes, it's REDICULOUS to have to remove the bloody mount to change the belt'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

But I was just surprised at how EASIlLY it pulled that lumina
But how does the cable magically come out of adjustment to make it shift at 7k?'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

hmmm ... none of you guys have gotten below 16.00 1/4 mile without having anything more than CAI and/or Exhaust.
must be the difference in 3400 then ... first run on the strip ran a 15.74; Cannot wiat for the turbo to go in at the end of this month.
i can take down N/A'd 3800's and '06 Focus ST's without trying ... either that or the ST driver suckedLast edited by strtrydr; 05-07-2007, 07:42 AM.
