  • 92 GP brake caliper BS

This is the second time this happend .. I was on the Mass Turnpike and I went to brake for a toll and I heard a grind ... so I pulled of to the side of the road .. looked for a bit and realized it was my passanger front brake caliper was flipped up hitting the rim .. Its the top bolt of the caliper. I know I tighten them good, and this is the only one with problem. Is it possible it could vibrate off .. twice? Would you recommend Thread Lockner? It is a part that comes off around 1-2x a year. Any ne else have this problem? Suggestions? Thanks

Those bolts, th ones with the torx heads, should be TIGHT. Very tight! They should be EXTREMELY hard to get off. If they are vibrating loose, I'd suggest a breaker bar to get them tight, and definately invest in thread locker.

try wire brushing the bolt , seat AND spacer areas clean b4 you tighten them up.My Monte Carlo calls for 148lbs. Around 1.5 times lug nut torque. Be careful with Loc Tite. Not saying not to use it but seen a few beers cried in when the wrong color was used.

If you use loctite keep it Blue. Red +140lbs of torque will equal permanent.

that happened to me 2x, thankfully it was the lower one so it allowed me to get home safely. i dunno why, i used loctite and torqued it to spec. i put on a new bracket w/ a new bolt and all fresh threads but havent driven the car probably 20 miles since it happened in june.
