  • this college thing is crazy

I ran into someone last night at wally world, and they mentioned their b/f was taking welding classes at the community college. This is interesting because I looked into it before but didnt actually go through with it.

Anywhoo, I am now enrolled in GMAW(MIG) FCAW/PLATE welding class.. Monday and Wednesday 6pm to 10pm for 16 weeks
I signed up for the MIG and TIG courses, but that would have been M T W TH for 16 weeks and it would kill me so i dropped the TIG and will do it next semester if this works out. Supposedly this place has a CNC plasma cutter

This will be interesting... full time job plus 16 weeks of class.

I was hoping to find such classes locally but I haven't had any luck. I know I could have done it in phoenix, but this is warsaw.

I should take up some welding/metal courses. College here in town has it.

Then maybe I woun't be such an idiot and could do some engine swaps and engine work.

Ben if I were you, id be looking around for the full day courses.. If i didnt have to make a house payment every month id have signed up for the welding degree course. Best part? with the "jump start" program.. its all totally paid for by local businesses! You get to keep all the equip and materials at no cost to you.

I've given thought to taking welding and/or machining classes, but at this point there are more important classes I need to take.

Full time job plus 16 weeks of classes.... welcome to my world! I've been doing it for the past 4 years, with at least 1 more year to go, if not 1 1/2 years. Yeah, kinda takes away from having any free time. Luckily you only have evening classes that are twice a week. This semester, I have classes MTWTF mornings (usually until about 1pm) and then a 3-hr Tues night class. And then I work my normal 1-10pm MWFS and 9-7 Sun. Ahh... what a life!

Yeah I was in college for 2 years.. average of about 20hours a week M-F. 30km drive each way with lots of traffic, had a job part of that time.. really wore me out. Had naps every afternoon when I got home.. lol.

I need a plate cut out with the same dimensions of the block deck. Im going to use it for my flowbench so it just needs to be 1/4" thick aluminum. Kimmo is supposed to send me a cad file sometime....
