  • The Z is running and damn its fast!

First of all thanks to everyone for answering my never ending questions. I really appreciate the straight forward answers everyone gave me. Thanks guys! Second, the Z is alive! I got the beast running today and took it for a spin ( 4 times) boy, this car moves! It does have a miss at idle, the plugs need to be replaced and there is a charging problem. Junk battery for 1 and maybe junk alternator, BUT IT RUNS! I think this the first time in three years this car has moved under its own power. It even looks good!
If it\'s fun, it\'s probably illegal and if it\'s illegal I\'m probably doing it.

Nope, wrong Z. I got the Lumina Z-34 done. My Z-24 is back in Minnesota, waiting for the day I get motivated to put my all wheel drive setup in it. The Lumi is all stock and up for sale. I really want a Z-34 with a burgundy interior, and a 5speed. BUT, I found an 87 Z-24 with a 5 speed and... wait for it... NO RUST! That to me is a miracle. The 87 Z-24 I had a few years ago was cool but just a box of rot. The old one was white with a blue interior, the one I just found is black with a gray interior. The paint is shitty but it has a 5 speed!

Youre missing a Z26 to make your collection complete! lol.

I hear ya on the rust. My beretta would have no rust if it werent for the rocker panels that always rust on them. Evyerhwere else is mint. Black grey and 5spd that's nice!

Yeah I Know the Z-26 is missing. I was damn close on that one. My now ex girlfriend bought a pretty nice one when we were together. Red, sunroof, lots of add on stuff on the body, nice looking car but the suspension was a disaster. Worn and sagging springs, blown struts and shocks, bushings that were replaced with broken glass, control arms that occasionally popped into the car to say hi . I think the kid that owned it before the ex got it tested the suspension by driving through rock piles, alot. But I really like this Z 24 I found. I hope my Lumi sells so I can go make an offer on the Z24. I'd love to do a turbo 3.4 in that car. 500 lbs. lighter than an 88-up J body and a 5speed? That thing would go turn all those little bitch rice boys into rice pudding.

My suspension stock was shot too. Springs worn out too. I "upgraded" to Z26 springs and new strusts/shocks. Mine had 100k of highway miles when I bought it. I replaced my vertical control arm bushing twice on the drivers side. They are known to fail on several cars that use that style. 93 and down didn't have them though.

The 87 is 500lbs lighter? how come? Is 87 gen1 and 88 gen2 or something?

The older square body Cavaliers 87 and older are shorter and I think narrower than the rounded body 88 and up Cavis. I remember looking up the weight in a chevrolet history guide. You know the ones that list every Chevrolet car spec since Chevrolet started? i can't remeber the exact name of it, but I think it was something generic like Complete guide to Chevrolet vehicles.
