They were selling sewing machines and stereo equipment. I've heard of this happening, but never knew anyone that it happened to. Thing is, ebay tries to make it sound like it was my fault, saying I must have responded to a spoof email, or gave someone my info. My wife doesn't even know my info, and I never even look at anything from ebay unless it's in the "my messages" part of "my ebay". I wouldn't have even caught it if I didn't check my account everday, they were all 1 day auctions, I got them 2 hours in.

Did you answer an E Mail saying you need to update your account info?
Bit me 2 years ago. Someone was selling Suzuki Bikes. I caught them. E Bay cleared me. Your account may be suspended for a few days. Just part of the process.
For future reference. NEVER RESPOND TO AN E BAY LINK!!! Go to your own account. If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

That's what they were trying to tell me I did. But I KNOW I didn't respond to anything like that, and for sure didn't respond with my info. Everything I get in my email account that says ebay gets deleted automaticaly, it never even shows up. The only email I get from them is when I'm signed in to the My eBay part of the sight. The only way I can think of this happening is the other day we were having trouble with our internet connection, and when my wife called, they had her reset our wireless router, without me knowing, so the security functions were turned off. Maybe somone near by is shady? I don't know. The guy I talked to at ebay helped me out a lot, and got my account reinstated very quickly. The thing that sucked about it is I had a couple of things up for auction, and they had to get rid of them, too.

ive had spoof mails. ebay sends me things about spring deals, new this and that, im too lazy to look at them so i just mark them read, lol. yahoo, paypal, and ebay have all sent me stuff at one time saying my account was suspended and used for illegal activities, i was like, ok... then signed on and found everything was normal.
the biggest thing to look for in fake emails is links, never click them, and attachments. in every case i had here was an attachment all the same size with different names. most likely a trojan opr spyware, otherwise they all wounldnt have been the exact same size.
you should run a spy checker, like spybot search and destroy or something similar. you might be unintentionaly broadcasting precious info.If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

Please read!
Let this serve as a warning. There is a new way for somone to get your eBay info. It is called a spoof auction. What happens is you click on an item, and instead of an auction being shown, a page that looks like the sign-in page pops up. This is a phony page. Enter your info, and bam, you're screwed. EBay will never have you sign in to view an auction. This is what happened to me.
