  • Best way to launch an automatic?

I know that many of us gm owners are stuck w/ an automatic transmission (Mostly the 95+ ga owners) and the main weakness of this is not being able to launch at a higher rpm, when I race my friends tibby the only reason he kicks my ass is because he will drop it at 3k on the go and go screeching off while my engine struggles to get up to the higher rpms at the start. I know of neutral dropping but something about doing that to my car seems horribly wrong. So am I doomed to always have a low rpm launch or is there a way around this?

I've found mild brake torquing to be most effective. You can get it to 2000 with no problem. Don't do a neutral drop. Tranny isn't fast enough to get into gear, and possible carnage involved.

Yeah, I want a 5spd too. Oh well.

      torque converters

I know a 125h is not the transmission you are using but I had a 3000rpm stall made for my gtu and Im positive you can have yours altered or a custom one made. I only spent 130.00 to have mine made the company was aceomatic and it did make a differance.

gm had a 4 cyl with a 125 that had a 3000rpm stall converter. the good thing is, most places that rebuild converters still have these on the shelf, and they can be dropped into many gm fwd transmissions. i know several people running them.

there are a billion questions I could ask you about that. But I'm I correct
(and correct me if I'm wrong) when I say that this 4 cyl you speak of is the quad 4 w/manual?

Tibby's also came with 6-speeds. But hyundai has issues with their clutch materials so just keep letting him drop it at 3K and eventually his clutches will turn to mush.

But yea, a quick brake-stand to 2K works good. I can break traction with a set of Toyo T1S's with just an intake and exhaust this way.
