  • how to hotwire a 92 f-bird (60dgreev6)

well guys, i lost my keys, and now the car is stuck in a parking spot that it is soon to get towed from and inpounded unless i can get it started. i have considered 2 things, having a locksmith come & make a new ignition key for the vehicle, or to straight up hotwire it & then fix it when i get the chance. my question to you guys is, are these a type of vehicle that require you to break the steering wheel lock when you hotwire them, or will it unlock once everything gets hooked up? i really dont want to hotwire it but im assuming that a locksmith is going ot charge me like $100 to make the key for it & i just dont have the money, but no way am i going to break the steering wheel lock (unless there is a way i can just disengage it?). does anyone know what wires you have to tie together/cross to get the vehicles power to kick on (like to the spark & such), because i can cross the solonoid & get it to crank the starter over, but with no spark, that is worthless.

    thanks guys!

The term "hot wire" does not apply to that vehicle.

The term "Column breaking" does however.

Spend the $100 on the lock smith, a column for replacment is usually MORE than that. Columns around here are generally $200+

i straight up wouldnt break the column, i just wasnt sure whether or not i could just hook the wires up & it would unlock that junk. right now im considering finding another ignition & just breaking it so that i could turn it with a screwdriver or virtually anything (temporarily), but im not sure how hard it would be to get my existing unit out.

see if a locksmith has a set of tryout keys that will work.

you could call a gm dealership and see if they have it on record under your VIN. but i don't know if their record go back that far. but it's worth a shot.

Well, I screwed up and accidentally deleted your post about the locking mechanism. I was trying to lock it after I replied. But here you go...
