out of 5 automotive related welding shops, 4 were too chickenshit to tackle a cage that needed certification, but would do it if it was just for show. The last one, quoted me $700 minimum, and upwards if it took more than what he expected. This is while looking at the car and having a good idea of what it would take.
my friend owns a chassis shop, and his bread and butter is making cages, so thats why I wanted to know your location.

I think I'd have to go one state over to California to be any farther from CT. I'm in Arizona near the border of Mexico

i would go custom... theres not one close enough and when you cut the tubing to add more tubing in your going to have to slug it and that will add weight and it creates more possible failure points

yeah, that's what I'm apparently going to have to resort to, but I wouldn't slug it, I'd probably sleeve it, and even then, like you said, more weight.

To pass tech, you couldn't do that anyway and would have to be a new piece, not added to.

would need a special custom made for a 4dr, and all 4 doors have to be functional with the stock interior.

do you still expect to be able to carry passengers in the rear seats? Because I just don't see that being possible safely.

                      Give Jesse James a call

With the propper equipment making a cage isn't really that hard. I've done them on several very fast go carts and dune buggies. A guy at a local muffler shop said he'd build one for my Trans Am for $200 :P

yes, I still intend to OCCASIONALLY carry passengers in the back, but not down the strip

as far as I know, which isn't much, the main concern here is that the halo be positioned over the front seating area. The rear braces should't make a difference on that little bit farther they need to extend over the rear seating area to the rear shock towers.

No, strike that. I think the 2dr and 4dr are the same length, so no modification should be necessary. The 2dr just has longer doors and no center pillar, to facilitate back seat access. The 4dr is the same length overall, so I just need the rear braces to follow the ceiling line a little farther before dropping through the package tray to the towers.

if i were in your position, i'd do all my engine stuff. then take the car to the track and see what happens before i build it to run a certain time.

it won't be safe to carry passengers in the rear of the car with the cage in. In a lot of cases its not safe to drive in a car with a bars around your head not wearing a helmet (padding or no padding those bars will do serious damage) So you're going to have to choose, safety or passengers, you're not going to be able to have both.
