  • What a little slick can cause

I just went head on with a jersey wall on the FDR in Manhatten on my way to Indiana to see Ben....I rolled over a bump that upset rthe chassis alittle and the front went vague and then the rear end went out of control. Thankfully traffic behind me stopped in time. The only thing I'm thiking is that I must've ran over something slick. As far as I know though the ground was dry and my speed wasn't too high at all, in fact I was rolling with traffic. $450 to tow back to LongIsland. The nose is damaged pretty bad but it doesn't seem the subframe was compromised. Looks like the impact bar took all the damage. The car can still drive but the Aux trans cooler was punctured. In the morning I'll take better look at the damage. As of now it looks fixable. As of now I feel fine. The Seat belt definately dug into me but thankfully it worked. The bright side to this is that I've always wanted to get the nose end painted, starting to lose it's luster.......No. Actually the real bright side to this that I'm alive. As I thought I was going to die.

good to hear you didn't buy the farm. w's seem pretty safe, i took my first lumina offroading when i hit some ice, down a 10 foot embankment, into a drainage ditch and took out a tree. no damage to me, and when they pulled the car out i drove it home.

Thanks guys. I'm still alittle stiff. My right wrist, neck, and upper chect are still sore. I serioulsy braced my self for the impeding impact and it was LOUD. But I wouldn't have it any other way, that seat belt saved me. Not only that, I've crashed 3 W cars and everytime I walk away. Pat you are right they are safe. The car now...It doesn't look good. The radiator support on the left midway up is damaged, the flange for the impact bar is pushed in and upward, the engine is sitting alittle low so I think the subframe took a hit as well, the tie bar is a hair twisted. I might be able to pull these things straight, but I won't know till I tear the fascia off the nose and get underneith and see whats going on. Got my Bell rung there....I was cruising at 60-65 but I hit the wall at alot less speed otherwise I'm sure the car wouldnt not've been able to be moved.

Geez man, glad you're okay. That's pretty close to totalled, insurance wise, but doesnt look that bad to fix. Subframe is probably bent; those front plastic bumper covers aren't cheap! Best of luck to ya

if you need a cradle and are headed my way if you're still driving big rigs i've got one for you, and i've got the impact bar with brackets from the nose of a lumina which may or may not be the same but you're welcome to it.

Think I know why I wiped out.. Just did a final autopsy on the Whale... Now I knew my tires need to be replaced, but I didn't know how bad my right rear tire needed it. It has tread but it was right on the wear indicator, edges were totally worn, because these tires are so wide I can see why it happend if say... I drove over water... Never let that happen again.
