Actually, according to gearhead on clubgp, the electric turbo gained 10hp on a 3100 on the dyno. It makes sense that the engine, while not getting boost, is having an easier time sucking the air in when a portion of what is needed is being pushed in. I just feel for the electrical system to achieve that 10 hp

When my car spits out raw fuel... spark plugs die...

Where can I order a 180* stat... I was at my local speed shop (Speed Merchant) and they said that they didn't show ANY 180's for the LQ1... I know they're out there.

      Link please.

Also... just for anyone who questions wether a 160* has ANY advantage at all... it doesn't... and it really does use more gas. I put one in because I thought "Cheap way to make horsepower, go Hypertech!"

Damn was I wrong... just cause more problems... fouled plugs... probably contributed to my cat. dying too.

Go with 180*, that's what I've been trying to do, but my stupid speed shop says they don't exist for the DOHC.

hypertech has one, cause nico had one in my cutlass before I got it. I dont know what the number is though, cause I swapped it for a 195 stat. Look on hypertechs page for it would be my guess.

NO way in hell I'd put a 160 in my car. I've got a 180 in my 2.8 and I'd like to switch back to 195 (or whatever is stock), cause it runs fine in the summer (all it REALLY needed was a coolant flush!!) and it takes FOREVER for my heater to work in the winter :P

I couldn't find one for my 3.1 here at the usual parts places. I eventually had to send some money to a friend in Canada and he sent me one. He also sent me part of the box with the part number. 267-180 Just too bad I don't remember what brand it was...

                14.60 @ 96.33 for now...

Yes, if you want heat, DON'T get a 160* thermostat....
I've got a "custom" 160 thermo in my car, free mod from an old 383 Drag motor my dad had, just filed the edged down to fit a 3.1 thermostat housing, works gravey....but ya, in the winter time like now, it barely ever gets past 180 and thats 10* before the fan even kicks on in winter time...On a 45 minute drive on the freeway it took the car ~40 of those minutes to get to 185 and didn't never even touched 190. The 'ol heater just doesn't cut it anymore...its alright though, thats what the other car is for....In the winter it'll be very nice....fan on at 170

So I guess the dyno runs never got done?

And for everyone information the engine runs best when its coolant is about 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius). At this temperature:
-The combustion chamber is hot enough to completely vaporize the fuel, providing better combustion and reducing emissions.
-The oil used to lubricate the engine has a lower viscosity (it is thinner), so the engine parts move more freely and the engine wastes less power moving its own components around.
                          -Metal parts wear less.

I run a jet thermostat , I wonder if its a 160 stat. I forgot , I got it when I got power pullies, I think its a jet , anyways , is it bad to run one? I think My engine heats up to about 210 , then the fan kicks on and brings it down to 190's. During winter driving it is in the 190's while driving I think. I have such a lousy long term memory even after seeing the data on my lap top.

Im going to have to check , but doesnt one of the lower t stats make sense in my application? I would think in the summer time my truck would overheat w/o one, but then again I havent checked.

Does anyone even know how a thermostat works? Correct me if I am wrong here.. But no matter what you get whether it be 160* or 195* stock they are gonna open up anyways when the engine gets hot enough.

160* -> stat will open sooner (at 160*) to allow coolant out of the block and into the radiator.

195* -> stat will open later (at 195*) and you will have nice warm coolant to go to the radiator and heater core in the winter.

So if your engine is running at 200* or something, it doesn't matter which thermostat you have.

I think that some of the people on here (like me) got their car which needed a coolant flush, so they got a new lower temp stat aswell, and when their car was running much cooler (and not overheating) they blamed it on the lower stat when in reality it was probably the new coolant that helped the most. Sure, if you have a crappy old thermostat that is not opening anymore your engine WILL overheat!
Everyone talks about their "applications".. what are you running your engine at 4000RPM down to Walmart or something?
Someone please tell me WHY a 160* are so great....

I think its all mental HP.
