I have an opportunity to buy a set of LS1 heads from a 2004 GTO, with less than 20k on them for dirt. My buddy swapped them out with roller heads and cam from a ZO6, to pull a bit more power from the ugly little thing. I'm an old timer and know not too much about the LT1, LS1, or Vortec engines. I'm currently building another street rod, and would love to use these heads (if possible). So does anyone know if I can use these heads and cam on a regular old school short block? If not, what block can I use? Also I've heard that the intake ports are aligned differenlty too? I'd like to slap a little demon on there but if a carburated intake won't work, finding a harness, computer, and full intake assembly will suffice. But It would be easier to get it all from a totalled vortec or LT1 rig if either will fit?????? Please write back before I throw some stockers on a ride that deserves a little pizaz under the hood!!

LS1 heads are only going to fit LS based engines. These engines would be the LS1, LS2, 5.3L, 4.8L, and 6.0L truck engines. They will not fit the older LT engines as they are a totally different design.
I hope that helps a little.2000 Grand Am GT

"The world's best cam combined with a poor set of heads will produce an engine that's a dog. But bolt on a set of great heads even with a poor cam, and that engine will still make great power." ~John Lingenfelter

ls1 is totally different, you can carb a ls1 tho and people see gains from switching, BUT you'd need a whole ls1 engine.
LT1 heads will swap onto a with a little work as the cooling is in reverse.
some people do that to the TPI engines as the tpi setup is kinda garbage in the higher rpms
you can swap vortec heads on your small block thosigpic
