no juice but battery has 12.8 volts

So i went to start my 02 Chevy Malibu the other morning and everything just went dead, battery had 12.8 volts on it but still wouldnt do anything, I hooked my friends battery to it directly and it started right up, I drove it 3 days and the next morning i went to start it up and same thing 12.9 volts but nothing the lights were on till i turned the key and than all of a sudden DEAD what can i do to fix the problem thank you

You drove it 3 days on your battery and it died again showing 12.9 volts? It could be charged but have dead cells so it has no amperage. Id have the battery and alt checked at a parts store. They can tell you one or both are shot.

That or you could have an internal short in the battery. I just had this happen last week and it left me dead on the way to work. Luckily I got ahold of my dad and he sent his shuttle operator up with a new battery . Dropped her in and I was on my way.

Because of the internal short the alternator would show full voltage but there was no output.

or it could be a bad ground.

the best way to tell is have the voltmeter on it and try to start it. if when your trying to crank it goes below 11 volt, the battery is junk. if not, have a look at the ground wires.
