  • '97 Sunflower Question..

I'm not the greatest with wireing and electronics and I can't quite figure this out (and its cool outside :P )..

The Sunfire's interior light is suppose to dim as is turns off (when you close the door). When we first got the car I noticed it took longer to turn off then my gf's car does. Then one day the light on the car was just not turning off at all. I pulled the bulb out so it wouldn't drain the batt.
Anyone know what controls the dimming, is it a switch or something?

    thx
    Dave

Not 100% sure, but its probably part of the BCM (body control module).

Or maybe the door switch has problems.

I was thinking it could be the door switch, but if that were the case if wouldn't stop with the door "dinging" noise inside. I don't know what a BCM is but I'll find out. Maybe I should ask at j-body ontario..

the interior light is also controled by the interior dimming light switch on the dash. if you have it flipped over too far it will stay on eh... but im sure you checked this.

97's dont have BCM's. its all still just normal door jam switches and basical electrical.

          '00 got the BCM.

so where is the thing that dims it then? Is it in the dash?

Colin there is still a controller "Convience center" that controls the dome light and the delay. There are seperate wires for the door switches (green/black for driver and light blue for passenger), these go to the convience center located up high behind the glove box. If you lay on the floor with your head pushed up against the firewall as best as you can, with a trouble light pointing uop in that area, you will see a rather large black blox with these wires and others attached a single 10mm head nut will allow it to drop enough to unplug it.

Awsome. I bet I could EASILY find parts at the wreckers.. since Sunfires and Cavs mulch up like popcans after they were in accidents there are quite a few
