Thats funny. My machine shop was showing me the head they can get that is better than a stock casting. The bore of the 2.2 is the same as a 3100 so I was planning on setting up my flowbench later for the 2.2. I have some pics of the stock head vs the new cast head and its definetly higher quality. Stock looks like styrofoam.
If you want it ported without any flowtesting (im not aware of anyone that has done flowtesting on these heads), I can do it for you. Otherwise if you want to wait I should be able to do some testing sometime...though I couldn't tell you when right now as I have plenty to do as it is.
I would't say its a performance head as its identical to the stock head other than the casting is much better and the machining is better. Stock vs stock it probably performs slightly better.

Price of this head is $400. The reason a company made these was due to the stockers not taking to welding very well. The crack tends to keep going when you try to weld it, so imagine having a nicely ported stock head with a small crack and no way to fix it. That would suck. I was told my machine shop does about 3 a week and they aren't even a huge machine shop nor is this a large city.
Price for the head may come down some if I order more than 1 but I am not sure on the amount of interest in them to be stocking them.
As for porting, if you want me to port one up how I think it should be done without the flowbench, id charge 250. I would have to acquire springs and valves and seals and seats, but the stock 3100 valve springs are are good upgrade over stock 2.2 springs according to the machine shop so that could be a pretty cheap solution.
That aftermarket 2.2L head looks exactly like the brand new head casting i bought from alabama cylinder head last summer for the new engine i built for my 1995 cavalier. This head is a thousand times better than the stocker the workmanship was amazing and it only cost $250 a bargan if you ask me. The engine seems to run stronger than it did with the old head i think that the nicely finished ports helped the power a little and my engine is all stock except for the obx 421 stainless header and 17755 super turbo muffler. I also painted the block chevy orange and it looks nice and runs nice.
