  • The damages of Bottled Water.

Daily science news on research developments, technological breakthroughs and the latest scientific innovations

I still do not see the reasoning for the whole bottle'd water craze. I have a water purifier inline with a seperate tap for clean pure drinking water at home. At work I just drink tap water. I can see when your travelling somewhere and there is no source for water but the people who buy cases of bottled water just to take to work each day or for that placebo effect that you are drinking natural pure spring water.... what a waste.

Honestly, we just buy the bottles of water to get the bottles. During the summer we drink it pretty fast, so we just keep the fridge stocked, when the water bottle is empty fill it with regular tap water, as long as its cold, that is all we care about. Having 10-15 COLD water bottles is better than ONE big one that gets warm.

I hate cold water cause it give me a brain freeze. Cool is fine, ice cold is no good. I get the big bottle and then refill it

If you lived in arizona however, you would know that tap water is disgusting. Seriously, its nasty shit that I couldn't drink to cure a hangover. I tried to boil it but that didnt help much.

An interesting thing to note is that most canned/bottled softdrinks use water that's as pure as bottled water, but at a fraction of the cost even after all the other ingredients. A 1L bottle of pepsi costs ~$1 Cdn while the same amount of bottled water is double to triple that. Insane!

I knew a guy that would buy Pabst Blue Ribbion because it was cheaper than bottled water. This guy did the calculations and came up with a proce per ounce and what not. It is true though the Beer was cheaper.

Never mind beer, what about gasoline. That shit goes through extensive refining processes. It's still way cheaper than "name brand" bottled water.

I personaly hate tap water. It tastes really bad, so I have a water cooler, It's only a few bucks for 5 gallons, so I think that's a nice happy medium. I take a water bottle of it to work with me. Or if we are going camping, we buy the small bottles by the case, from Costco. Because it tastes great and is like $3.50 for 24 bottles.

I agree with Ben too. Ice cold water, that hurts my head. I like it cool, not freezing.

                  Not to be too phobic...

but bottled water has been purified. That means there are no minerals in it. If you eat McDonald's and bottled water solely. You may suffer from Magnesium dificiency and be prone to heart attcks. The combination of those two things are deadly! Just food for thought. Drink mineral water.

Most places here have good water. Especially the new well at my parents house.

My bottled water is a 1 liter Nalgene bottle with a 60degreev6.com sticker on it.

Nalgene. What happend there. Now everybody has one, even me. Actually I have 4 of them. Expensive as hell, but lots of companies were giving them out as promotions. That's how I scored mine.

They are good, but same trendy bullshit. At least they are made in the USA.

Purification does not remove all the minerals. That is deionization. It also makes water non-conductive. Water that has no minerals is useless to drink however.

But back on topic, I guess we should just drink beer, burn gas, and save money!!

i agree, so just put some tap water in the fridge and let it sit for a while... and Bam! bottled water

no seriously, filtered water is good for you because that is like 70% of the human body. Consider all the years of contaminants that have been dumped into your system. Then consider how most of that stuff never leaves the body...

I like well water. I was born and raised in the country, so bottled and city water to me taste bland.

Let's go over a quick equation.

"Mountain spring water" = tap water.

"Bottled at the source" = spigot on the municipal line.

If I buy water, it's "drinking water" or "purified water," Great Value (Wal-Mart) brand. Less than a dollar a gallon. Or I'll get it from one of those machines for a quarter. Seriously, the tap water here is barely safe for cooking and bathing, let alone consumption. Tastes like pool water.
