I couldn't really reda your diagram very well... Type of what you are trying to power from where, the impedances of the various speakers, etc...

Oh, and just because I was running 11 speakers off of 1 amp doesn't mean you can do it on any amp. I was running an amp that was stable down to 1/4 ohm in stereo... I think when all was said and done, the amp was seeing just under 1 ohm. Most "regular" amps will die when loaded like this. Probably why my 25x2 amp cost me $550. (Did I mention it was rated at 800watts mono at .5 ohm?)

that musta been a sweet ass amp!

everything is figured out but a few things.

first is the front midrange speakers, the schematic says 2 ohms, the stock speaker in the trans/am is 2 ohms. i was told that by pairing 2 4 ohms in parallel would make it a 2 ohm load for that circut, what your take on that?

then the rear midrange speakers. 4 ohm circut accroding to the schematic, speaker is 4 ohms in the trans/am. but i'm using that channel for the fiero seats so i have 4 speakers in place of 2. originaly i wanted to put 8ohm speakers i parallel for the 4 ohm load. but all i could find was 4ohm speakers. so how about i wire those in parallel for a 2 ohm load and put them on a seperate volume control?

Hey, bszopi are you still doing the car audio bit? I'm still plugging away at my system, it will be pretty cool, when it's all done. Not bothering with such an elaborate crossover network though. My amps are 1200@1 Ohm and 75X4 @4 Ohms at least thats how they are wired. So, I won'tbe fitting into any 0-50watt class.

Good to see some true enthusiasts around here.

          *sigh*

Yes, 2 4 ohm speakers in parralel will yeild a 2 ohm load.

I'm really trying to understand why you are going through all this trouble when for a lot less headache, and simpler system you can get MUCH better results using a simple deck and a couple pairs of speakers.
If you really wanted to a 10" sub and kickpanel speakers would make all the difference in the world, and be much easier to install in your Fiero.

its a cavalier... i'm just trying to put the spare amp i had from my TransAm to good use. i cant imagine anyway you could fit 10 speakers into a fiero cabin, well maybe. i try to keep a part from every car i had, this one works, just want to use it.

Sorry I thought for some reason you were putting this in a Fiero due to your last post, I should have realized this was a Cav.

I've put 7 10" subs in a Fiero, plus the front end speakers, 3500w for the subs alone too.

Again, sometimes just because you own something, doesn't mean that it should be used.

^^ What he said. If you're intent on using it, use it for a computer speaker amp, or something like that.

i'll make it work. i'd get a cool new amp and headunit except i dont want to use stuff the local asses would be tempted to steal and therfore rip the car apart. i might get on the news if that happened.

Well if you just want the factory unit (I like mine too, matches nicely), Just get a Line Out Converter and hook up to your FHU, and then connect it to a aftermarket amp and speaker setup to look stock (Since you cant see the speakers anyways).

i think i got it all worked out. i'm going to set it all up on a peice of plywood and test it before i think about going through installing it. i didn't look too hard into a line converter since the only ones i can get nearby is a schoshe at walmart, and i dunno what kind of quality that is. the other option is to drive my gas suckin suv 20+ miles to a car audio shop and look around. i've already spent like $400 on speakers, and the amp i got a few years back was only $50 and i know it works, whats a 6 channel 500w amp cost from the after market?

Schoshe is a very good product. 6 channel amps are not too common. But you could easily get, a 2 channel and a 4 channel amp. They would be very affordable.

But here is a 6 channel on ebay. I've never used Pyle amps, but it definatily has enough power and flexability for your needs. Price ain't bad either.

I have not had alot of luck working with LOC's on full-range signals. They work great for Subs. But I find you run into alot of distortion with the High/Mid frequencies.

that ctruchfeild product is the exact thing at wal-mart, i think i'd just pick one up localy so as to save on shipping, if it applies. i'll keep that stuf in mind if this tiny monsoon fails me. Is thing seriously supposed to be 500watts 6 channel? maybe 300watt and maybe 6 channel if you strecth it i think. i've eaten sandwiches bigger than this and seen 2 channel amps twice its size. but anyways, i should have it all mocked up and tested this week so i'll post the results and problems and see what you guys think. thanx for all the help so far, i'll make sure i get some pics of stuff when the system is in and the interior looks like an interior again.

IMHO, those factory premium systems are junk. You are probably right about the amp. If you can find out what it is fused to that will give you an idea of it's true wattage. It should work out to roughly 10 amps per 100 watts.

You have to consider that they engineer these factory systems to be vehicle specific, by that I mean they choose the drivers, and equalize the system to sound good in a preticular vehical. So, I'm not sure what it will sound like once you change out the speakers and swap it into a different chassis.

I did a system in an 92' Acura Legend oce. It had the Bose premium system in it as well. In that car the Bose amp started to crap out. So, all we did was buy a Mid/Low level Pioneer deck and some so-so Alpine coaxial, factory replacements. Total price with all the hardware was $600 CDN tax in. That thing sounded awesome, way better than his Bose system EVER sounded, even when it worked right. We even used the crappy factory speaker wires.

However the new systems seem to be a bit better engineered.

But then my uncle just redid his 03' Chrysler Concord. He is a bit of a Audiophile with his home stereo, so He decided to redo, his factory 8 speaker, car stereo. The factory system was well balanced, and had lots of bottom end response and fairly crisp highs. Very pleasing sound, for factory. So, he bought a very high-end, Deck and Amp. Then he bought a set of Focal, Coax factiory replacements. Matched all the driver sizes and everything.

Turned out after $4000, it didn't sound much better. He lost a ton of his bottom end, really the only thing that got better was his Mid/Highs. Ended up, going out and spending another $1200 on a sub and amp. turns out he spent over 5 grand to get slightly better sound. Since he doesn't care much for sub-bass, he really didn't do much improving.

I bet, he would have had decent results (better value) if he had just replaced only his speakers and not his deck.

That's my story, take it as you will.
