    I like puzzles, but for the life of me, I can't figure this one out. I'm not a Math wizard. http://www.mysticalball.com/ Probably some simple thing I missed.
    If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

    they change the resulting symbol every time.

    18-->9, 18-9=9, but if you add one to 18, you are going to subtract one more.

    Now do simpler math

    18+1--->19

    19+(-1)[because you are subtracting one more this time around]=18.

    how about 17, one less for a sum of the 1&7 than the 1&8, yet one less you have to subtract.

      What if I pick 4? 4+0=4. I subtract 4, I get 0. How does the puzzle know I pick 4?, or 99..18...99-18=81? Cunfuzed!

      I'm slow. I do know, it has nothing to do with numbers.

        That's the reason the 0 also has the same symbol as any multiple of 9. If you look at how they are doing it, whenever you add the 2 numbers, then subtract the sum from the original number, it will always end up with a factor of 9, or be 0 (which is actually 9*0, thus still a factor)

        74 --> 7+4=11 --> 74-11=63 --> 7*9=63

            Sorry, kinda funny. You didn't notice that if you pick 5, 6, or 7 the resulting number is still zero?
