  • URGENT! PLEASE HELP

i changed out my outside driver door handle a couple days ago and now the door won't open at all, one mechanic told me that the lock rod is not coming up enough to disengage the lock. It really sucks having to climb over the center console every time I get in and out of my car. Any help would be appreciated

    thx

If its a w body, pull the cover off the inside of the door that you removed when you changed thehandle. The part that bolts to the handle is on a threaded rod. Undo it, turn the nut/connection piece so it sits higher on the rod, and reinstall.

oops, sorry. This is the forum for my car, its a 1992 lumina z34. It is a W body. The only cover i took off was the cover over the actual mechanicals of the door handle, and I can't get to that because the door doesn't open. I am really at a loss for ideas.

The is NOT a W-body specific site, so therefore it really isn't the forum for your car specifically. In fact, this is supposed to just be for engines, but we do cover other things as well... Anyway, on with your question.

So you can't open the door from the inside either? Hmm... makes it alittle more difficult to determine. Unless you can figure out a way to take the door panel off from the inside, you might be SOL. There has to be a way to open it from the inside unless you really screwed something up inside when you re-assembled it.

            Ben is right.
Also, there is a small clip on the actuating rod that is a PITA to get installed just right. Chances are, if you just changed the handle, it did not "Click" into place and came loose. (Happened to me)
