Ok, a couple of clarifications I have been wondering about myself. The current engine really is similar to a W configuration, but not truly a W.
A W would have 3 banks of cylinders.. this one has 4. They have been calling these a W motor. More like a double Vee with the outer cylinders sitting so close that it is more like an offset 8 on each side, and a single crankshaft. This was the idea Volkswagen wanted to use on their v4 and v6, 15 degree offset so they are practically touching. The Bugatti engine has the cylinders so close that they only have 4 cam shafts, but 64 valves. So each set of cam shafts actually drive one double bank of 8. So essentially this IS a 90 degree v8.. two of them actually.
Anyone check out the fact the car has 10.. yes that is right.. 10 radiators?
and a very respectable 4.36 lb/hp for a 4300lb monster.
As for the Suzuki "Hayabusa" GSX1300R. I think 550 is unrealistic, and I don't believe they dyno'ed it. Stock it is 180bhp, around 150hp at the wheels. Fantastic for a bike that wieghs 531lb dry. But the world record holding 261mph bike is twin turboed (and 10lbs of boost ea) and they still only rate it at 330hp. To get to 550 hp, you would have to quad turbo and alcohol inject it. And i want to see anyone be willing to ride it. Not mention actually turn![/quote]
