  • How quick are Grand Am GTs?

My neighbor wants to race me and i was wondering how quick a newer GA GT with the "ram air" hood is? I think it has a 3400 and a dynomax exhaust.

A guy in my class had that exact car. He ran 15.9 at our track.

The majority find themselves between high 15's and mid 16's stock.

My friend Jess has one, its got better low end then a standard 3100 GA, the ram air doesn't do shit for those cars, its just a name to get people excited.

175HP i forgot the TQ, but if you launch better than him, you'll be able to stay ahead

I helped her put a cone style air filter with heat shield, and a flowmaster muffler to replace the stock one, and took the screen out of her MAS.

We both raced (in my 4 dr 3100 GP) with just an intake, (before i did the exaust mods) and i had a better RT at the light i pulled a car on her through 1st, and it stayed that way (she didnt pull any closer) all the way to 90 when we let off....seeing as how your motor produces more power, you'll take him pretty easily...provided you consentrate on your launch. think of it this way. if you nail a launch against someone and your car can run 14's at the track, the other persons car has to be able to run a faster 1/4 mile time than you to catch up before that.

Run him and find out, but Im 90% positive you will beat him.

We already have a meet set up the first night that the local track opens up here in february. My car is pretty slow for a z34 the fastest i have ever ran was a 15.7 and a 15.9, other than those i am consistently in the 16.1-16.3 range. I have excellent reaction times. Before the track opens i should have my FFP dogbone mount and my new wheels. I'll update yall when we run.

RT's are important, but your launch technique is what affects your 60 foot and everything afterwards. if your an auto, make sure you brake TQ the motor, and get the RPMs up to around 2500-2800, let off the brake, then just hammer the gas.

If your manual, Do the same RPM, but slip the clutch out, dont dump it, and slowly lay into the gas, dont just romp on it.

I'm an auto and i brake tq it but i have not noticed any improved 60ft times. As a matter of fact my best 60ft was when i did not brake tq it and i wound up running a 16.4! WTF? I do prefer brake tq-ing it though. Thx for the info.

bone stock 3400 Grand AM GT's (somewhere around '00-'04) run mid 15's stock. I'd say mine (2004) with just the intake would be good for mid 15's to low 15's at sea level.

It's a helluvalot faster than my Z24 currently and the Z runs 16 flat on a bad clutch.

mid 15s is right, but there are some factory freaks that run low 15s stock

Those freaks are the Grand-Am GT High Output motors, insted of 175 HP, it makes 190HP, still not sure about the TQ though, but i have seen them run, its just a better PCM tuned version of the 3400 with better TQ management, and a higher range of timing advance.

What year did those come out cause this is the first I have heard of a stock from GM 3400 making 190 hp.

Uuhhh... no. There is no GAGT with a tweaked PCM from the factory, and no 3400 making 190hp.

Look around, im almost positive of this, dont quote me on what its got done, i just recall reading up about it in a GM performance tech mag it came in the same body style of the 02+ GA insted of saying ram air on the side, it says H.O , or something of the sort ive seen them at my local pontiac dealer before, or maybe im just crazy

                            '99 and older GAGT's had "V6 H.O." badges, '00+ have "Ram-Air V6" badges.
