  • Very off topic but important

Yeah this is a stretch, but being in retail myself this is a real issue that we have to deal with. The article is long but its very important to understand this.

To summarize, walmart is driving prices so low that companies making products inside the US are forced to move outside the US for cheaper labor to still make money and keep up with the demands that walmart makes. In short people are losing jobs because of walmart which isn't good. It could become the only place to work and buy from, excluding some things, because it's hard to buy stuff if you don't have money.

yeah, but what are WE going to do about it? Only a significant change can be made either by a BUNCH of people (who's gonna protest prices that are too low?), or the government.

This is what they get to at the bottom of the article

In the end, of course, it is we as shoppers who have the power, and who have given that power to Wal-Mart. Part of Wal-Mart's dominance, part of its insight, and part of its arrogance, is that it presumes to speak for American shoppers.
Every person makes a difference, and for every less person that goes to target or a grocery store (which reminds me that their meat is horrible nother topic) is that much less for walmart. Protest won't stop them as much as education and smart shopers. Maybe we shouldn't stop going there but go there A LOT less.

yeah I understand that, but I also know the dolts in this country that still shop there like mad cattle (assholes).

I don't go to Walmart unless I have no other choice. (Which is rare) I feel like fucking trailer trash when I'm in that store...

In Canada WalMart is a dump and usually only the scum shop there.

However in the states, Washington specifically, I went by a WalMart and the parking lot was a comparable size to our entire shopping mall parking lot.

Which tells me that WalMart is TOO BIG in the states.

The Walmarts I've been to around here in S. Ontario have been very clean and respectable. I wrote a huge post on this same topic over at w-body.com. I do most of my shopping there CAUSE ITS FRIGGEN CHEAP!

Yeah, I buy most of my groceries and household products at Wal-Mart. I don't buy clothes there or auto stuff really (except oil, because they are the cheapest in my area) though. I don't buy meat there because I usually have enough venesion from hunting season to last me.

The sad part is, the stuff is cheap and that's why people buy from there. Now that we are moving though, it is actually more of a pain to go to Wal-Mart to buy stuff.

Once someone else in this 100k+ population city decides it would be a good idea to sell batteries and CD's at 3am, I'll shop elsewhere. Good job being a harbinger of doom and all, but if they really start destroying the US retail economy, I'm sure Uncle Sam will step in.

In every Wal Mart in my areas there is NO food just chip,s pop and candy. No grocery items. Are all Canadian Wal Marts like this?
