i have a cut supreme with a 3.1, currently on the car, no cat., and a cherry bomb glasspack. it is to loud and sounds raspy. i would like a deep rumble thats not annoyingly loud, i am buying a cat. and 2 1/4 in. pipe from summit. any ideas of what muffler/resonator i should buy? my budget is around $170

Thrush outsiders!!!!! Oh, wait, your on a budget.... well thats out (when you can find them they are $250+++). I would say Flowmasters 60 series (non-delta).
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

I have seen people put Borla mufflers on w body cars. It is another option. With the right size muffler (I forget what size) Borlas yield a good idle rumble, but are softer in anything higher than 1300 rpm it seems.

Dynomax ultra Flo stainless, also is an option...In combination with a good resonator will get rid on the rasp. These muffs are only raspy at cold starts. Loud yet rummbly. I like these muffs.

well i just figured out how restrictive the exhaust manifolds are. i couldnt believe how tiny it is. i need headers but they have to be custom made, and they arent cheap! i would like to open up the manifolds before doing an entire exhaust.

I'd say go with a catco universal performance cat for around 50 bucksfrom summitracing.com, get a flowmaster off set inlet, center out for like another 50 from jegs, Then try finding a junkyard around you that has another car like yours, get its manifolds, and crossover pipe, for dirt cheap, i got my extra 3100 manifolds for like 20-30 bucks from a J.Y. Got myself a nice dremel from home depot, and gasket matched the manifolds. It will take time, but its worth the top end your gunna notice in the end

I run my car with 2.5" tubing, no cat. And an Arospeed muffler. (yeah, one of them ricer ones) And i'm kinda regretting not having a resonator on there. It's a loud exhaust ticket waiting to happen.

Defiantely go with the flowmaster and a resonator.

ive got a 60 series on my car. actualy, i have 2. dual 2", headers back with vibrant 2" high flow cats, and 60 series. i realy like the flowmaster 60 mufflers, they are a real nice tone on our motors.

40 series flowmaster on a 3.1 sounds like ass, i switched it out to a dynomax super turbo and it's much better.

Take your old gasket, line it up on the manifold, then take some bright spray paint and spray a light coat over to mark the spots you need to shave off, this way when you take the gasket away from the manifold, you will see the broght spots, and just grind, and smooth away those parts till the paint is all gone, you dont need to get any more than half an inch inside with the dremel so dont over work yourself.
