My buddy's 2G put down 296hp/296tq on the stock turbo... but it was a race-built motor. Too bad it spun a bearing at 70mph in 5th cruising down the freeway.
No, DSMs break all the time (when pushed). Preventative maintenance only goes so far. You obviously don't mod a car that you don't intend to push hard.
guy, I own 2 dsm's. One runs 12.4 second quarter miles all day long. I drive it like I stole it, EVERY day. The only thing that has ever broken on it is the alternator. And a driveshaft when I slammed it sideways into a curb, but thats not the cars fault.

I thought all DSM'rs knew about NABR--I guess not.
never heard of it, maybe it's cuz i'm up in canada who knows. The only DSM place I hang out is Club DSM Canada forums. And i'm mostly there to help people out and check out the for sale section.

I completely agree with you about DSMs breaking all the time. All my friends that have one as a performance car has had major problems with their car. I'm not saying that they can't make the power or handle the load, it's just that I think they require much more maintinance then they are worth. The SR20 will last longer than the 4G63 under the same condtions. If I didn't have so much invested in my TGPs then I would go SR20 myself. :P

and like I said, it all dependson how you take care of it and if you have all the supporting mods done. If you go out and buy a talon/eclipse thats been beat to hell then slap on a bigger turbo and turn up the boost, the cars not going to last. If you do everything properly they can be just as reliable as any other car.
I've never had my 1g dyno'd but like i said it can run 12.4*s all day long, and i drive it every day like i stole it, the only thing thats fucked up on it was the alternator.
A friend in London has 500awd hp to the ground with his and he's the same way, he's snapped an axle in his , but they were drifting and doing donuts in a snow covered field and the tire fell into a hole.
I have two, I've built 3 times that many. Some for drag cars, some for autocross, hell we built one for a rally car before. None of them were any less reliable then the scooby's and 240/280sx's. Just gotta make sure you use good parts, know what the hell your doing, and do it right.
