Hey, I'm going over 100 and that cop didn't even turn around
Yeah, but what does your vehicle top out at........
Yeah, but the thing is, say the Ford turns around on you while you're already going 100mph. It takes him about 30secs to slow down, about 20secs to actually turn around, and another 17 just to get up to 84. In that full minute plus, I've already accelerated to 109mph where my car tops out. Simple math, I will have about 2 miles on him before he can even MATCH my speed, leaving him to cover those two miles by a 19mph difference. You go 19mph for two miles and see if someone wouldn't have had time to dissapear before you get there.

well that's more than 30mph over the limit in most parts of this state, you'd be going to jail quick fast and in a hurry, even considering the fact that the camaro may be the only car in that list that can catch you, ever try to out run a radio wave? gets pretty tricky...
As for the car talk. We've got two new intrepids. one threw a rod, and had the engine replaced, the other has been in the shop more than it's been on the road. bottom line is that these cars weren't made to be driven 24-7. Regarding the accleration results... we've also got a 95 crown vic parked back there which moves much quicker than the intrepids even though the numbers on that chart seem to indicate that they're close to the same. As for the top speed, i've had the crown vic very near 130 so i'm not sure if those are accurate or what year they tested.
Anyway, the only way you've got a shot at out running the fuzz is out in the sticks somewhere... sticks that you know very well, cause odds are they know them better...
I wouldn't think it'd take that freaking long to slow and turn... more like 10-15 sec to slow down, and maybe 5-10 to make a U turn... if that long.
Depends on conditions I guess. I'm thinking of our area where 70mph is the speed limit on the interstates and there is basically a 20ft wide bog, or cement wall, between the two sides of traffic. Finding a place to turn around in one of those cruisers would be the hardest thing to do. It's not unheard of to see them stuck in the center of the highways after a storm.

Actually... now that I think about it, more often than not they're catching traffic going the same direction they are... generally parking in some usually inconspicuous place. So then they'd only have to accelerate.
But for a turnaround situation, a car will stop FAR quicker than it can accelerate. Think about it... you can use the maximum grip of your tires on the pavement from highway speed all the way down to zero, but accelerating, you don't make that much power... unless you're driving one of those early dragsters that spun their tires all the way down the quarter mile.

True, but in the situation where the cop was on the same side of the road as me, I would probably just pull over before it mattered. That generally makes em happier than trying to ignore them and slowing down to the speed limit and pretending they're not coming after you even though you blew past them at 100+ while they were sitting there with the radar gun out.
But I still hold to my convictions as far as turning around. I know they stop fast, but human reaction time isn't all that great, and I was also calculating (i guess I should've been clearer) finding a turnaround. If you're on a road where there's no cement or nature in the median, then I guess you're pretty much screwed unless you want to take your chances in a neighborhood.
As far as the motorola thing goes, I'm not going to do stupid stuff where they're going to have time to call in someone before I can get somewhere where my car is at least somewhat hidden. I don't go 100mph every time i'm on the highway...at least not anymore...or lately...

I think the NCSHP might at first laugh, then get real damn mean about a 130mph Sunbird... so I don't think I'll be testing that top speed anytime soon.
