  • DIY full throttle switches and window switches

Hi guys, I don't really hang around here much to know how electronics savy everyone is, but I thought I would throw some stuff out there for you.

At the begining of this summer I was considering using some nitrous so I started looking into it, more, again (this wasn't the first time). Being that I'm about done with my electrical engineering degree and the controllers out there are not very complex, I figured that there were probably some write ups on how to build them. I looked but didn't find much. So I decided to make them. I built a throttle switch only, and then a throttle and RPM switch combined. I have been working on a progressive controller too.

The idea I wanted to shoot for was something that didn't require a micro and programming. Easy enough that the only thing needed was a soldering iron was what I wanted. I've been using this setup for a relay controller for a while now with no problems.

The window/rpm switch page still needs a few pictures added or updated with numbers, but most of its there. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

RE: DIY full throttle switches and window switches

Hmmm, so this could be used for quite a few applications, nitrous included. I can't really help you with electronic stuff...im clueless. May as well tear apart a trans and ask me what those parts as well:P

I think this could be very useful for a 2 stage intake setup.

Mind if I copy your pages for this site and link to your site? Id like to make sure the information is available, as I don't trust angelfire sites too much (used to have one).

        Awsome

I have a free program at home that does schematic drawings and is a peace of cake to use. Im sure as an engineer you have access to the same.

I love though. Could be used for all sorts of things.

Coming from a Bench tech with a BSEE.. Nice work!

only thing i see is that i'd put a current limiting resistor on that op amp.. and possibly toss a voltage regulator on VCC... car voltage is not always 13.8.. it varies between 12 ish and 15V at times. :P

*edit, just looked at the 2nd schematic and saw the 7812...

            Thanks for the feedback.
Anyone can copy this and put it anywhere they want. I'm probably not the first person to do this stuff anyways.

I use beige bag for most of my schematic drawings right now, but I have to copy stuff into paintbrush in order to put all the notes in the way I want to. You can add text to the schematics in thte program, but paint is so much more cut and dry, in my opinion. The window switch page drawn by hand because I didn't have 2907 chips in my program, and I'm limited to 20 parts with the free trial version. I already had that drawing done anyways, scanning it was easy enough.

If anyone would like me to build either of these, or wants help building it, just pm or email me. I'd like to hear someone's advice after trying to build the throttle switch on their own, if anyone does that ever.

I will be building the window switch before next year, BUT I will be modifying the schematic. If I understand it right, I will be eliminating that WOT switch and using a different style, an actual TB mounted one. I have never trusted something that is supposed to read voltage to control my nitrous flow. Main reason I dislike Zex nitrous systems.

I can underestand what you mean about that voltage, but it really is very safe as long as you test it out once before using it. The likelyhood of failure of the TPS is the weakest link if you can solder half way decently. Let me know how it goes for you. Make sure your tachometer signal is the same as mine (I will add the data about mine soon to my page).
