  • What if I?

What is our role on the internet right now? Should we try to expand or enjoy being a fairly small site compared to the platform/everything under the sun sites? I just want to know what everyone here now thinks? Ive seen so many new people on here in the past 2 months and remembering all the people gone that it would be great to have more multimedia on the site, and doing whatever it takes to get people active around here. There are so many things that could have been submitted as news and we are hardly ever updated anyway. Brad put a lot of time into this, and I did whatever I was capable of doing. Our visitors per month hasn't changed in 4 months basically, we were growing at a steady rate for 5-6 years.

Im obviously cool with the small site thing, easier for us to manage:P I just wonder if we should try to get some multimedia going for download/upload. We have bandwidth to burn, thats all im sayin, but space could be a concern if we get over our head.

One of the greatest things about 60degreeV6 is that it is more technical than anything. Other larger sites are usually full of mostly BS post that make them look so large, and very little actual info. I come here everyday to search through the post and read. Just because I don't log on or respond does not mean I don't read the forum. I bet other people do the same thing also.

If you want to make this place more popular then I would suggest posting more videos. Make it available for people to post links to videos or even upload them here of 60degreeV6 equipped cars and maybe other vehicles.

Whatever you decide to do Ben, just keep the technical sections and I think everybody will be happy!

Over $12K invested, and still its slow. Maybe thats because thats most all repairs. Don\'t knock the engine though, because thats the only part that has seemed to last.

Well thats what im wondering, I feel that we aren't technical enough, and the site itself needs an update beyond belief. Multimedia would be awesome and would attract more people, and maybe with more people things would get updated? Or overrun...who knows.

I'm happy to do whatever I can to help out around here Ben. Maybe PM me with some stuff that I can start doing. After all, my name is on the "Behind the Scenes" page. Maybe it's time I start contributing more! :P

i've got no strong feelings one way or the other. because of this site i've multiplied my knowledge of thr 660 by probly a thousand, and been directed to some really great books.

i'll admit i think the strongest part is the forum. i think this site is more motor oriented then it is meant to be platform oriented, maybe some platform specific areas would be cool. i know just because most of the motors go into quite a few cars means they arent all the same, there are differences.

and maybe a few writeups on basic car things, like an idiots guide to brakes, or a coolant flush, etc.. some people are clueless to some of the things that coud them save them a wad of money if they did it themselves.

I like this site the way it is: very technical based and full of information. Just as stated above, the larger the site, the more BS, and less useful info.

I think it's good the way it is. For the most part, people who have an intrest in this motor will find this site, like I did, and stick around just because it isn't full of the BS that other sites are. It would be nice to have more info on the iron head motors, and one of these days I am going to do something with mine and log everything, pics, etc. Keeping the site small (or at least smaller then the platform based sites) keeps it simple for you guys who run it, which is a good thing.

first off i must say that i love this site
small is good, there are virtually no retards here and no spam as well
                lovin it

it would be neet to see some msn emoticons to choose from. :P
                http://messenger.msn.com/Resource/Emoticons.aspx hehehe

im with the "for dummies" guides on all the basic things like oil changes (with a comparison of quality, price ect.. on oils filters(syn, reg oils),
coolent flush, with a tech info of how it works, what brands are good, additives like that wet stuff) and anything else of any relevance.

id love to help out with any of the guides, im going to be getting into a hybrid 3x00 swap on a 2.8 block in my 93 gp and would love to document it with pictures and stuff, id love to piece together a guide on that
if i can get ahold of some 33:37 drive/driven gears id even do a pictorial guide on that swap on my 4T60-E

i think keeping it small, but broadening the horizens on gm related would be cool
maybe a history on changes to the gm cars from make-year to year. i know that would take awhile but is worth it and with everyones contributions it can be done

E-manuals would be the bomb lol

hmm what else...i'll post when i think of more stuff

I actually have several things that people have sent me and I have been slacking on getting up. Now that the family is trying to save money (or should I say trying to better pay off bills), my car fund is basically gone. With that said, I will try to devote more time to trying to get some more stuff on the site working. Unfortunately, with my new job, I can't sit around and work on the site until something at work goes wrong (like I used to do ). And my daughter loves to tear me away from the computer at night. But I'll try to do some more stuff. I know people have a ton of ideas, and they are all good. Problem I see is, people always say they will do this or that, and then 95% of the time, we never see any of it. So maybe with that said, some more will get done.

I have been a part of this site since almost day one back on the Yahoo crap, so I've seen people come and go. But one thing I have noticed is, people tend to stay here longer than they stay at platform based areas.

And on the subject of platform specific stuff... Sorry, but I refuse to make anything on here platform specific. Once we do that, the site will start to go downhill. Leave it to the other sites for that. Perhaps we should instead gather a list of all the platform specific sites and throw them all into the links section, and possibly a sticky post or something, so then when someone asks a specific question, they can be directed to the appropriate site. Just my thoughts...

Well, I need to get back to work but I'll check back in a few hours at break and see what else has come up.

I have no idea. I want platform sections, or platform specific articles for swaps and aftermarket support, but I don't want to turn into another "no site listed cause I don't need to hurt my business". Thats the other thing, I can't express my opinions as I want to anymore cause I run the store and my own company. I have to deal with so much BS/Lies/Marketing shit now that it just drives me up a wall.

This is why I posted this thread. I only want to do what everyone here thinks is good. For me, the largest site possible with the most traffic would be best. But in my heart I know that would probably kill it without some major help and Brad shouldn't be doing all the work.

Please, if you see something interesting on another site that allows public viewing, submit it on the site. This site is about the site, not the forum. Forum rocks, I agree, site needs to kick some serious ass as well. Pictures, how tos, walkthroughs, love it, hook us up!

Maybe it's just me, but when I hear multimedia, part of me hears things like video walkthrough on how to do stuff, and part of me hears glitz and glamour, which this site has never used nor needed. Not every idea is a winner, and some sound good at first and lose their luster, we just have to find what's important and keeps people's interest. Like the news section, that's the first thing I look at when I log on to the site, and I have even written a couple things for news. Some things we just gave up on, like the 1/4 mile list, and the user pages.

I do, however, like the idea of video walkthroughs for maintenance. I tear into my car enough, and am always looking for new ideas for my video camera. That's something we could do. How cool would it be to see the cam timing done before your eyes on a screen than reading about it? Something else I think that would attract people is things that highlight how much fun these cars are and the meets and such. That's why I wanted to make this video so badly about the last meet. But interest in such a thing is apparently not there as I haven't gotten any photos from anybody. RednBlack, I know you tried to link me to yours, but the link doesn't work.

In the end, it's a crap shoot. I do like the smaller feel of this site as opposed to things like W-Body or ClubGP. At the same time, I know fewer people here, but the people I do know I know a lot better than on other sites. And it doesn't take long to figure out who knows their stuff and who is talk. But I'm open to new ideas and willing to them see them through.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

We at least need video walkthroughs for cam timing and any other maintenance stuff. Im 100% for that much of a multimedia center.

that'd be great, more pictures would be good to, especally if we could get some good one of rare items, like the old b&m supercharger and the offy intake
