  • seeking donations: christmas trees for our troops

every year one of my very best customers does christmas trees for the US armed forces overseas. since they are in a war now this is even more important. last year i did 20 trees. this year i have 50 to do. what i do is take $20 per tree and load it up with as much stuff as i can. personal hygeine products, candy, drink mixes, instant soups, movies, books, magazines, and whatever else i can find. I ask local businesses for donations and last year 10 trees were sponsored at $20 per tree. i try to make the $20 go as far as possible because each tree is shared by a tent of 6 soldiers.

this year because i have so many trees, i'd like to see if we could get people to chip in around the internet based car communities i belong to. If you want to sponsor a tree it is $20 and you get a picture of the tree i made with your donation to hang in your office or show off to your customers, and i send it with a personalized card that i make on your behalf with your name, email if you desire, business or contact info if you wish. i got quite a few emails last year from soldiers thanking us for the trees and lighting up their holidays. however if you would like to go partially in with someone, or just kick in $5 here and there, that will go to a tree(s) sent as donated by "members of 60degreev6.com" with a list of who donated to that tree. then ben will get pics to post up on the site to show everyone what a caring community we are.

also i am looking for stuff like dvd's that you dont use anymore, and those kind of things. they have movie night but i was told they are lacking in the good movie department.

if anyone is interested in helping out, let me know and i will relay my contact information via a PM. i have to have the trees done by end of september, then in october the army flies them over to iraq out of the youngstown reserve base, and the USO distributes them for us.

I will guarantee I'll be in for at least 1. The wife and I are trying to minimize our spendings right now, but being ex-Navy and having been overseas for Christmas once, I know that every little bit helps.

thanks guys it means alot. no matter how you feel about the war, it's a great thing to do. i hate that they are over there and wish they were home, but this makes all the difference in the world to them. my buddy came home in january from 18 months in the sandbox, they are getting 1/2 or less the food they should be getting, he was getting approx. 1.5 meals per day instead of 3. so anything we can do to help should be done.

Hell Yeah I'm In!! I have a Nephew in Iraq right now. He will be there over Christmas. (And he believes as I do, we need to be there, but with more firepower.)
